A marijuana load of more than two tons was seized Friday by CBP Border Patrol Agents at the Interstate 35 checkpoint.
Agents working at the checkpoint, 15 miles north of Laredo, reported intercepting the 4,181 pound narcotic contraband from a tractor trailer bearing license plates from North Carolina and Oklahoma.
The cargo was searched after a drug-sniffing canine alerted toward the trailer, officials said. Further inspection with the dog led agents to 272 bundles of "refined marijuana," the report stated.
Three subjects of U.S. citizenship were arrested in connection with the seizure and were subsequently taken into custody by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The trailer was also turned over to the DEA.
The marijuana seized has an estimated value of $3,344,800.
CBP Border Patrol Public Information Officer Mike Herrera noted that the amount of narcotics confiscated has increased within in the past year.
Seizures for the fiscal year 2004, which ended Sept. 29, totaled $87,848,880.
Total amounts for the 2005 fiscal year, which commenced Oct. 1, 2004, has already reached $90,895,544 as of January, he said.
Those arrested Friday will be magistrated in federal court.

I was also wondering if Nate Newton had gotten out of prison and back into the "transportation" business...

Give it back! That's their dope and not yours! I would rather see someone stoned and driving, than drunk driving, any day. I say legalize the stuff today and empty the jails of pot-heads and send me back my tax dollars used to keep them locked up.

Further inspection with the dog led agents to 272 bundles of "refined marijuana," the report stated. What exactly is 'refined' marijuana? I never heard that term used before.

What you do is you take the whole she-bang, roll it up into one giant marijuana cigarrette, then claim it was for personal use. Have Woody Harrelson and Tommy Chong and testify as expert witnesses.
