Internet bile backfired on Bush-haters
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 2/15/05 | BY MICHAEL BARONE

Going into the 2004 election cycle, just about everyone said the Internet was going to change politics. But no one was sure how. Now we know....snip

...The Democratic Internet constituency was and is motivated by one thing more than anything else: hatred of George W. Bush. To see that, you only have to take a look at dailykos.com, run by Democratic consultant Markos Moulitsas, which gets 400,000 page views a day -- far more than any other political weblog -- and which received funding from the Dean campaign (which Moulitsas disclosed). It seethes with hatred of Bush, constantly attacks Republicans and excoriates Democrats who don't oppose Bush root and branch.

When four American contractors were killed in Iraq in April 2004, dailykos.com wrote: ''I feel nothing over the death of the mercenaries. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.'' This repulsive comment produced no drop-off in page views. This was what the left blogosphere wanted. Kos was an early enthusiast for Dean's campaign for Democratic chairman and disparaged other candidates.

For 12 years, Democratic chairmen were chosen by Bill Clinton. He built a new generation of fund-raisers who relished contact with the Clintons. Now, the big money comes from the left blogosphere and Bush-hating billionaires like George Soros. Dean gives them what they want.

As Dean says, ''I hate the Republicans and everything that they stand for.'' Hate. But Bush hatred was not enough to beat Bush in 2004 -- Democratic turnout was up, but Republican turnout was up more -- and doesn't seem likely to beat Republicans in 2006 and 2008. The left blogosphere has driven the Democrats into an electoral cul-de-sac...

...Within four hours, a blogger on freerepublic.com pointed out that they looked as though they had were created on Microsoft Word. CBS defended the documents for 11 days, but finally confessed error and eased Rather out as anchor. Mainstream media tried to defeat Bush, but only discredited itself. The Pew Center's post-election poll showed a sharp decline in the credibility of newspapers and broadcast TV.

So what hath the blogosphere wrought? The left blogosphere has moved the Democrats off to the left, and the right blogosphere has undermined the credibility of the Republicans' adversaries in Old Media. Both help Bush and the GOP.

And in a bad neighborhood, no less.

"The left blogosphere has driven the Democrats into an electoral cul-de-sac..."

"Cul-de-sac?"
How about

"The Left blogosphere has driven the Dimocrats off a cliff!"

The biggest problem for the Democrats is that the biggest fundraisers for the Democratic Party nowadays is the MoveOn.org/Michael Moore ultra-Left faction of the Party. As such, they will turn even further to the Left and will soon marginalize themselves to the point of non-existance.

Mind you, this is actually great for Republicans.

And FreeRepublic is bigger still. Kos is struggling to be the 4000th most visited site while FreeRepublic cruises along at under the 2000th.

With all due respect there are no cul-de-sacs in 'bad neighborhoods', only Dead End, One Way streets.

And the Dems are on one :-)

Pat yourself on the back ping here, too, in case the other one is the duplicate and gets deleted.

and yet the MSM does not get it STILL. ITS THE STORY STUPID!!! The forums like FR, the bloggers could have no impact if the story did not tell the tale.

The internet has allowed information to flow, it has allowed MSM censorship by omision to fall, spin by one way communication to die, and it has allowed exposure of who is what.

Look for more hit stories in the comming days, the MSM are cockaroaches caught in the light and they don't like it.

The problem with these counters is that probably half of Kos hits are FR members going over to check out the latest hullucinations at the asylum.

this article is an effort to rehabilitate them.

I think the MSM is going to try and prop up left wing web sites as a means of protecting themselves.

It the MSM covers only left winge internet blogs and sites, it is just digging a deeper grave for their careers.

"...the right blogosphere has undermined the credibility of the Republicans' adversaries in Old Media."

Even the mighty CNN folks are feeling the "truth from bloggers" pinch - Eason Jordan, Chris Cramer - then there is Ward Churchill who has inadvertently lifted the curtain on other foul academic anti-American Kirkland Projects and their supporters, Nancy Rabinowitz being one of the leaders.

The MSM is in a fight for its life; the pajamahadeen is winning!

Technically, FR is not a "political weblog" as they describe KOS.

What the MSM and the lefties will never realize is that there is a difference between hate and background research.

When we were dealing with the Long Beach/Chicom issue or Monica's Blue dress. Or the NSA and John Huong, our motivation wasn't hatred of Clinton (aside from discriptive names) it was love of America and our Freedoms.

Commie/Fascist/Socialist/Dums do not have such a foundation. Therefore they have onky one motivation, hatred, and since they can not acknowledge the depth of their hatred (America, Democracy)they focus on Bush. The only thing you have to remember about Dums is you always have to peel back the screen to see the REAL agenda.

actually I wonder what ELSE have CNN staffers said.

I would bet dollars to donuts the Jordan comments were NORMAL AT CNN and that is why he felt comfortable stating them.

The irony? all those fired or out of work reporters will trying (for a while) to start left wing blogs of their own. CNN will present them as important, and then they will have traffic of 1 hit per day, themselves.

Bob Beckel was on H&C last night whining about bloggers and using the same talking points as the rest of the left. The libs can't stand the fact that they've lost their monopoly on information and they're lashing out.
