Weren't they calling this guy 'the Messiah' at the DNC - like he alone is going to save them from their biannual buttkicking - what a bunch of sheep

The hub is in my backyard. Ditch Amtrak.

Amtrak is threatening to shut down a whole slew of stops in Montana. When I read that, I thought "OK. Fine", and then figured they should just be done away with.

I don't see any "blasting" in the article.

"Rail is the most ineffecient, and polluting, mode of transport on the planet."

I do not know about that, but I do know that Amtrack is full of hackery, nepotism, and all of the other characteristics of big government boondoggles.

I'm thinking back to those who wagged their fingers at me for saying Obama was just another leftydem, and I'm smiling.

How about the Empire Builder, stopping in Whitefish? I'd like to ride that one sometime.

I think they call it the "Hi-Line." Route 2. Amtrak runs parallel to it--although the tracks (the Great Northern?) pre-date the road and Amtrak. Whenever there is an Amtrak cutback, there is always that howl from the Northern Plains and the "Hi-Line" commnuties.

But that service is a big money loser for the fed. government.

He finally found something to 'hang his hat on'.

What a fraud. Calls himself African when he was raised by his white mother after his father fled back to Africa.
But when it became convenient he decided to be black, to further his political career.

The Amtrak cuts, as I understand them, would be the cross country scenic / tourist routes. These routes are tax payer sponsored vacations for those with plenty of money and vacation time. I'm a rail fan, and ride privately owned and operated excursion trains when ever I can, but I would be embarrassed to ask a hard working person to fork over money for my hobby.

Someone give Obama a parka and tell him to scope out the Alaskan waste land. One could actually, you know, get some oil out of it while providing high paying jobs in the process. What does sending middle aged tourists from point no where to point no where on a locomotive have to do with national energy policy?

Wow. So that was an Obama-Blast. I'd hate to see him when he was really angry.

I think we'll hear some pretty good oratory from this snake.
======
Just another lib mouthpiece but I agree..the Dems don't want a smart black man showing his face or having any PRO-AMERICAN rhetoric with a Dem's name on it..probably has the NAACP running scared about job security..like Condi Rice. Both are dangerous to the libs...

I must be Ms. Cleo. As I predicted, Democrats spent the last 3 years attacking Bush for deficits. Now Bush moves to cap spending at a record low 2.5% and eliminates 150 federal pork programs and Dems. bitch that Bush is "slashing" budgets. And of course they're also dragging out the tired "draconian budget cuts" canard they use whenever Republicans move to get control over budgets. But then I think we know when Dems. bitch about deficits, what they're really saying is "Taxes aren't high enough." Well get over that idea Dems. We're not tanking an economy that's humming along nicely to satisfy your sexual fetish of tax hikes.

How the hell do Democrats, including Obama, think deficits are EVER going to be controlled if we're unwilling to even take on porked-up purely elective spending programs like Amtrash?

More of the typical Democratic "Attack Bush if he does one thing, attack him if he does the opposite" bullcrap clownish, non-adult, not-ready-for prime time Democratic childishness.

I find it odd that he claims that he is a member of the "Church of Christ" or some Christian religion because his mother is Christian but by the Muslim dogma he's a Muslim because his father was a Muslim. Another connection between the left and Islam?? I'm waiting to hear what he has to say about the War on Terror and the Muslim infiltration of the West. Can anyone give me more info on this guy?

Why, is a decimal point missing?

Rail is the most ineffecient, and polluting, mode of transport on the planet.

Eliminate all railroads and a lot of coal-fired power plants would go out of business pretty quickly.

Rail is an extremely cost-effective means of transporting a lot of people or a lot of stuff. For really big bulk shipments, the only other comparable modes of transport are rivers and canals. For places that aren't located near a river or canal, nothing else can come close to matching the price of rail for large shipments.

Unfortunately, unlike commodities like coal where an entire trainful can go from one point to another point, people generally have an annoying habit of wanting to board and disembark at many different places. This substantially detracts from the achievable level of consolidation. In some places, such as the London Underground, the level of passenger consolidation is sufficient to allow a self-sustaining passenger rail service. In many other places, however, the trains serve so few people that they cease to be economical.
