CHICAGO U.S. Sen. Barack Obama suggests the Bush Administration is headed in the wrong direction on funding Amtrak.
Just a few blocks east of Transportation Secretary Norman Minetas news conference defending proposed cuts for Amtrak, Obama was suggesting the White House is on the wrong track, again. The proposal has been made before.
Ideologically, Obama says, the Bush White House is simply opposed to federal subsidies for rail systems.
But, at a time when the U.S. is trying to reduce its dependency on foreign oil, Obama says Amtraks passenger rail system should be getting more White House support, not less.
Obama who? This guy is even less than John Kerry, and he's worthless.
What do you mean? Obama is the up-and-coming rock star of the Democrats! /MSM Hype Machine and Cheerleading Section
Dang it, I read too fast for my own good.
I had opened this story, expecting to find that Osama bin Laden had something against Bush, or Amtrak, or passenger trains, or governmental subsidies.
Sounds good to me.
Who cares???????
bush can ask for 80 billion dollars to fight the terrorists in iraq and afghanistan but not one dime to fight rush hour terrorists (traffic)...
We will assimilate.
Oh, bite me, Osama-bama. Rail is the most ineffecient, and polluting, mode of transport on the planet. Even the Afghans know that. (source: U.S. Department of Transportation; Journal of Transportation and Statistics)
Think MagLev. Clean, quiet, extremely high efficiency, non-polluting, less footprint, able to leap tall buildings (and hills) in a single, quiet bound.
:O)
P
I didagree however that he is "worthless" ... I think he is valuable (to the democrats) to sway the voters incapable of discernment to the Dim side.
His speech at the Dim convention was, by any standard, a statement of Americanism and, I believe, the word is out to the press not to cover him at all untill the 08 elections.
I think we'll hear some pretty good oratory from this snake.
"Ideologically, Obama says, the Bush White House is simply opposed to federal subsidies for rail systems."
Nothing like stating the obvious, and perhaps the Bush Administration is seeing something he doesn't?
Might Amtrack not be a profitable organization?
Obama-sama just wants to use the Old Media to "railroad" Bush into burdening the Landlord -- the citizens -- with more debt....
I belch in his general direction.
the democrats are NOT concerned about our dependence on foreign oil.
if they were, they'd not attack american oil and gas development, and they'd support the bush administration's policies in the mideast and caspian sea areas.
the last post was 2 u.
Obviously.
why should the government have to subsidise a company that has no competitors outside this country...and has plenty of money as it is
Trains that go nowhere should be done away with. I couldn't care less if the hub happens to be in Obama's back yard.
