JACKSON, Miss., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Mayor Rusty Quave of D'Iberville, Miss., switched his party affiliation Monday to Republican.
With Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour at his side, Quave said he was honored to have found a proper home for his views.
"I have served the citizens of D'Iberville as mayor for the past 12 years with a conservative attitude and strong emphasis on economic development and quality of life," Quave said.
Quave's decision comes just days after members of the Democratic National Committee elected former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean to be the party's national chairman.
The number of Mississippi's Republican elected officials continues to increase and is now higher than at any other time in recent memory, a spokesman for the Mississippi GOP said.
(((MS PING)))
First of many to come I'm sure. Thanks Howie.
Yes there shall be many more as medical technology advances new ways of reversing lobotomies.
More info on this dude...will he becoming a RINO?? Texas inquiring minds want to know..:)
what's the popuation?
Ok, lame. But couldn't resist...
LOL
"I have seen the light. And the light was RINO!" /sarcasm off. A dem that becomes a republican is a RINO. I have found few dims that were conservative enough to become conservatives.
7,608 pop (2000).
Where is D'Iberville? Never heard of it, but I have heard of former LA Governor Iberville.
Oh, a big city.(I can say that. My Mississippi home town was 2,400 souls)
Just across from Biloxi on the north side of the Back Bay.
Careful I use to live there and know some rednecks.
Now the GOP will carry Mississippi with 71% of the vote instead of just 70.5%.
While I applaud the move, I think it is wrong for people to pull this kind of stunt during their tenure, ala Jim Jeffords. Sure, switch before the election, but not while in office although that can be hard for an incumbent.
Well while this might be good to hear, I don't think it should be allowed for a person to switch parties in the middle of the stream. After all, people vote and the winner is put into office. If he/she...Republican OR Dem wants to leave the party then they should wait until their term is up and then run again in the party they choose to join. It's only fair for ALL OF US.
I would be upset if someone I voted for switched over in mid-stream to another party. I as a voter would feel betrayed.
Point well taken.
Bless his heart... seriously.
