I tried googling his name and didn't come up with anything.

"Well, those lay overs can be a killer."

Apparently this was a "hang-over".

(sorry...)

I agree with you, sounds very odd. Was his name "Vito Genovese" or anything like that by chance?

I followed the link up near the top of the page (somewhere in the 50's). On the sidebar of the site was this story as well:
http://www.nynewsday.com/news/local/wire/newjersey/ny-bc-nj--airline-cocaineri0214feb14,0,265667.story?coll=ny-region-apnewjersey

I'm not suggesting anything here, I just found it interesting that it was on the sidebar of the story we're discussing, that's all. It may be somewhere else out in FR land and I didn't see it.

Moral of story: Don't hang around at Newark.

Very suspicious. IMHO...not a suicide.

Precisely. Why didn't he off himself before he even got on the plane? Or why didn't he wait until he had returned to Maryland?

In the travel time from Lisbon to Newark, what could have changed his state-of-mind?

Why couldn't it have waited until he returned home? Choosing to act within such a limited time frame, between the gate and customs, under a circumstance that could not possibly have been convenient (how does one go about hanging oneself in a janitor's closet?), strongly suggests something is rotten in the state of EWR.

Newark Airport is not a nice place. I can understand why someone would want to take the fast way out.

Maybe he had just broken up with a fiance in Portugal, or something sad like that.

However, it's such an odd place for a suicide. How did he know the cleaning lady wouldn't come back before he finished the job?

Now, what if...you were an Al Quaeda agent who was supposed to BLOW UP that plane after it left Portugal, and you got cold feet, and you couldn't do it, because you were still halfway human.

Are the Jersey Jihadists at it again?

Someone was waiting for him when he arrived back in the U.S.
