Ever surf the 'net while in China?
They're in the middle of another internet cafe shutdown campaign too. They shut down around 1,200 over the weekend - for the children.
I visit China every couple of months, and the media restrictions are utterly ridiculous.
Whenever I surf the net from China, at least half the web pages just result in error messages. Even basic news outlets are usually blocked. There's a much more international flavor to Chinese news than American news, but the censorship is disgraceful and fucking annoying.
The funniest part of it is watching Hong Kong news shows. When they get to a story the Chinese gov't doesn't like, the screen goes straight to the ol' black/white beehive of static. Then, a few seconds later, the news is back on like nothing happened. Hilarious, especially when the first few seconds of the story get through.
