They better be careful how they crack down, if they only go after conservatives there is going to be some Big trouble. NPR should be the first ones on the attack list because they are so blatant about their support for the RAT party.

Great thing about the Net. The servers that host the free speech can be located far beyond the jurisdiction of the US Government.

HMMMM Funny how this happened as soon as Dean became head of the DNC. He was the one who made the most money out of internet donations in his campaign.

Jim, as you may know, I have been concerned that the activities of paid operatives on FR may be considered to be a campaign donation in kind. This move by the FEC may just end up being directed in that manner.
So far, ignorance has been bliss, but I'm not sure it can stay that way. Let's all keep an eye on this because it could become critical to FreeRepublic's effectiveness, which arises from the fact that it is still, in main, a voluntary forum for grassroots activism.

Not going to happen, Laz.
FR isn't connected with a particular candidate. We post newspaper articles and comment on them. Nothing they can do to stop that.

And they were never going to be able to institute CFR, either.

The servers that host the free speech can be located far beyond the jurisdiction of the US Government. That won't stop them from trying. They (our so called government) is already trying to stifle offshore activites such as online gambling.
In their minds they have no boundaries.

Ugh, fk them. Will our government stop trampling over our rights?
Not until we stand up and force them back into the box that we created for them.
By force of arms if necessary.

Watch "coordination" morph into something else that will ensnare FR in the process. Imagine a NCPAC-type FReeper (member of a pol's staff) posting something innocuous on FR and have the RATs try to shut the whole thing down on that basis. If I volunteer to work the local phones to support Condi for President in '08 and then I post a supportive comment, would that be considered coordination? Would there need to be a mass recusal of posters? This could get real messy.

This refers to political campaigns. FR does not coordinate its activities with political campaigns.

The day that they manage to infringe that far on our rights will be the day they succeed in their own complete demise.

They had better start waking up and soon. Anything that represents POWER within the people will be (and is) a target. If you want a model of the potential future IN THIS COUNTRY just look at communist China. All forms of communication are suppressed, filtered, restricted, etc. -- simply to stop communication against the OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT.
