Blogger Goes After Gannon/Guckert
Blog | 2/14/05

Well ..I hesitate a bit to put this up, and mods if you need to pull it, go ahead. I usually glance at DU from time to time as I think it is important to see what they are thinking about...(The Democrats must be listening to them as their BS is perculating all over the political landscape.)

Last night I wandered into a post about Guckert/Gannon .The DU link is here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3106117

They say a big story about him is about to break. The website that is after him is:

AMERICAblog.org, at http://www.americablog.org/

As best I can tell they are pursuing the gay angle. After wading through this crap what I think they have is that Guckert/Gannon had/was in a gay website involving the military a while back ...beyond that I dont know that it is any big deal...... but they sure act like it is Watergate or something.

So I am duly reporting this excursion into the dark side. I have got stuff to do today so I will not be around much . Consider yourself warned, you will need a shower if you visit these places

OK, does anyone know how indepth the vettings are?

You must be kidding. Or you have never visited the WH after 9/11.

On what do you base your assertion he wasn't vetted thoroughly?

That's the premise I started with. The facts are he was and despite that you're yammering on about how he wasn't.

My problem is those who play fast and loose with the facts and post inaccurately at best, deceitfully at worst.

What do you deem "real credentials"?

A college degree in journalism or pertaining to journalism would help, don't you think? Show me his degree--or even a background in reporting, and I'll feel a little better.

If most people aren't asked to talk about it, then there goes your basis for saying most lie about it. Statistics show the overwhelming number of spouses stay faithful, ergo, no scandal to be hiding.

No, I don't think a degree in journalism is necessary or even desirable. He wrote lots of perfectly good articles and he asked perfectly good questions.

Works for me.

If this story is true (and that is a BIG if), some troubling questions are raised.

Aside from the obvious "media whore" joke, how would someone who was a male prostitute get into the White House press room? Either

1.) The vetting process is truly horrible (which I doubt), or
2.) Another problem exists.

Can you tell us what kind of background check you had to go through to visit the WH?

I would have no idea. The Secret Service is not known to explain their procedures.

Gannon was vetted.

Kerik had not been. The process had started, not been done, when his name was publicly named as a nominee.

Pesky facts again.

And since I don't believe the Bush admin would knowingly let in such a person, I find this to be the most appealing explanation of the current facts. Is it so hard to believe that someone can slip through the cracks? Anyone remember Bernard Kerik, whose faults (I'm NOT talking about his affairs) could be found through public records, and yet was vetted for NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR? Again, a vetting duty, I personally believe, not in the hands of Bush or Rove, but in the hands of aides who I hope now have been let go for idiocy.

My thoughts exactly. Or worse, that some putz was involved with this guy and let him in for whatever reason.

Did he have no degree or no Journalism degree. Given the state of Journalism schools today, I would prefer a reporter who did not come from that cesspool of bias. Do you think Peter Jennings, who didn't graduate from high school, is qualified to be in the White House press pool? In this new era of change from MSM to new media, bloggers have to be allowed a place at the table.

Well it might work for you, but it doesn't work for most of us, and I seriously doubt it "works" for the White House.
