Excellent post,as usual.[Please excuse me now,I have to clean the spittle off my modem.]
Fortunately lawsuits take a very long time.
Suing FR over the O'Malley affair would be the equivalent of suing a city over slanderous graffiti on a column under a remote bridge.
"Gee, I didn't say that ALL blacks were stupid, but the niggers are!"
I will copy the exchange on CJR Daily, and post it here. It should be amusing.
John / Billybob
I can't help wondering if we here on FR aren't seeing the first tentative steps in re:the Immigration threads. The level of moonbattieness on them strikes me as more and more suspicious. JimRob seems to be handling it, though.
Read and bumped.
Excellent! I smell a classic Catch-22 coming up!
Hmm, "pajama brigade" versus "kneepad brigade" skirmish shaping up...?? ;-)
Thus, we see a lot of "shock merchants." Thanks to years on FR, I have learned to be patient because most of the time when these "shock merchants" bare their wares (teeth), things turn out not to be as advertised. This little piece of patience and wisdom has saved me from much mental anguish and grief.
But it was on a Friday (how Clintonesque), and he would have to wait a week for the next Friday..
Well done!
Good shot!
For some odd reason, Lovelady's comments seem to be the only entry on CJR Daily which does not permit folks to post comments about it. Also, he neglects to mention is "slavering morons" and "lynch mob" which he has confirmed is an accurate quote, in his latest post. (If anyone can solve the post-to-Lovelady's-post problem, please let me know.
The short of it is this: No one should make such a comment about any group, especially without bothering to research the backgrounds and bona fides of those involved. This is twice-times true when this slander (libel, if is published) when done by someone who purports to be a journalist. (Lovelady told me that he formerly worked for Time magazine.) This is three-times true when it is done by a leading official of the voice of the oracle of the MSM, the CJR.
He still owes us an apology. He still has no clue why Jordan had it coming. He still has no real clue about the nature of what we members of the "Pajama Patrol" do, and how seriously we take our task.

You said: A newspaperman once told me, "News is what your editor says it is, unless the publisher says it isn't." Used to be, that was true. Not any more - we're the publishers and editors.

It is these sorts of mini-admissions that are slowly, but surely, sinking the MSM. On the editorial pages we expect opinion and bias. But the MSM leak this into the "news" areas of publications, and when they get called on it, they lose, bit by bit, their authority and power. The blogts are there to take up the slack. Thank God.

Good job, John. Lovelady sounds like he's a ... no ... wait... are you sure I can't call him an insulting name?
Perhaps a new department is in order at the Columbia School of Journalism, that of Blog Studies. You could be this new depatment's head Billybob. Just my two cents...JFK
That said, there is another level of a battle brewing as I see it . It's not left v right, TV v internet (forums, blogs etc.), is OLD VERSUS NEW.
The failures of network news to report (fairly) and shove pre-screened, neatly packaged agenda items down it's viewers throats, FORCED people to go to the internet for the news. Clicking about, finding voices that sounds like yours, then, human nature is to know what others are saying. Voices from all political stripes weighing rumor against the facts, and coming down with a conclusion made for ones own self. Some of the cyber voices are founded and fueled by hatred. Proudly wearing their bias, is actually a good thing for a reader to know going in. The smoke and mirrors scam by the alphabet networks is taking it's last breaths. It's own blatent bias and arrogance forced us to take our 'business' elsewhere. I'll make up my own mind now thank you.
But I see a second wave. That being the left TV newsies, battling it out with their lefty forums, bloggers etc., for delivering the news. Let me add this: the TV / Print News orgs are USED to setting the agenda.. but that is not necessarily the case in cyber world. Right or left there are different flavors, and TO ME, it's even more threatening to the left to allow the fringe in their own party take control the message, while losing control of the party. Afterall, what is a lefty these days? To me, they're a collection of special interest wackjobs. There is no unified cohesive BELIEVABLE vision coming out of that wing.
The media *age* is changing. And Jurassic Park is closing.
My 2 cents.
