Dr. David Ho director of the Aaron Diamond AIDS reasearch center, which is conducting the studies in collaboration with the New York Health Department said that his lab test have shown that the rare strain from the man whos case started the investigation is resistant to 19 out of the 20 licensed anti retroviral drugs.
AIDS experts said that the strain may have led to the radid onset of AIDS in the man or his immune defenses may have been weakened.
Molecular tests of the man's HIV show it has changes that appear to differ significantly from the typical strains in New York.
The second virus is from a patient in San Diego. It was found by scouring the records of a commercial lab, Viro Logic of San Francisco, and portions of its genetic makeup resemble the molecular pattern of the New York mans virus.
The contacts in New York City are among the hundereds of men with whom the New York man told health officials he had sex with in recent weeks while using crystal meth.

Interesting how NYC, Boston and San Fran are always the first affected areas..I thought civil unions in Masachusetts would put and end to all of these bugchasers! (sarcasm off)
Even without the virus, the gay community is, literally, sterile. They HAVE to indoctrinate new members regularly to keep the population up, or they'd simply fade away. Sure, there will always be some whose sexual wiring is wrong, but the actual number, I suspect, is even smaller than the number of purported homosexuals. I would not be surprised to learn that more than 2/3 of all homosexuals could lead normal straight lives, had they not been pressured into homosexuality one way or another. That would also explain much of the constant search for validation, the excessive in-your-face-ness of their "culture", and the massive self-destructive tendencies often seen in the homosexual community. They are ashamed, possibly sub-consciously, of themselves, thus the high rates of drug use, suicide, violence, not to mention "bug-chasing" and excessively high rate of partners even in the face of the facts regarding the spread of disease (and AIDS isn't the only disease in the gay community by a long shot).
You are so right, and I am getting tired of footing the bill for a disease that was acquired from someone's irresponsible behavior! Actions = Consequences = Deal with it!
Quote: This strain of the retrovirus will fix that, probably within the next 10 years (won't be enough of them left to matter).
Don't count on it. TV shows and popular culture are doing their best to recruit new "gays" . There will always be gays.
Surely civil unions or marriage would lessen the promiscuity and thus reduce the threat to the wider population? It would seem that opposition to such measures would work against the interests of the wider population. Why pander to a subsection?
If gays start dying off within a couple of years of coming out of the closet, they are going to have a hard time selling the lifestyle. There's no way they'll cover up the death problem, because it is the key to their "noble martyr" status, not to mention funding their support infrastructure. It's one of their defining characteristics, and they'd fade into the woodwork without it. They're caught in a catch-22.

Read an article in a religious mag about a young girl who was brought into the lesbian lifestyle for 10 years and is now straight and happily married to a man.
She said she did it more out of rebelliousness than anything else and to be noticed.
Once the die-off starts, the only gays will be those who are "pre-wired" for it. Yes, there will always be gays, but soon it will no longer be fashionable to be one, and then only those with that particular mental block that precludes them from being anything but homosexual will be left.
It is all such a waste. It doesn't have to happen.

...so what you are saying is that aids over the last 20 years has not made an impact? I disagree with you people will still go the gay route regardless of any diseases.
Betcha she was a LUG: "Lesbian until Graduation", but got trapped by an older dyke into an abusive relationship.
Totally agree with you!!
Their unsanitary, perverted practices have made them into walking incubators of new plagues, which eventually escape from them to infect normal people.
Serves 'em right. You reap what you sow.
Are TV and pop culture solely the reason for gays? If not, why will there always be gays? And if there will always be gays (hint: TV and pop culture are recent phenomena) what is the point of 'fixing that'. Seems like a corpse-generation program to me.
I think AIDS has made a tremendous impact over the past 20 years: it has made these people martyrs, and they have worked very hard to make sure it is always spun that way. The drug regimen made it possible to claim that AIDS wasn't as big a deal as those conservative meanies kept saying. They became the modern-day equivalent of the tragic poet, or the lead in La Boheme, afflicted with "consumption", yet still to be admired. Much of the "goth" culture, and the fascination with vampires are all derived from the same cloth. And I am not saying people will continue to "go the gay route in spite of the diseases". Quite the opposite. I am saying that, once the disease is no longer an (apparent) inconvenience, many of those who become gay will no longer choose to do so. Only the ones who could never be anything BUT gay will still be gay (the ones the DSM entry was written for).
