My wife knew a woman in college who was a fully commited Lesbian ...she is now married to a Doctor (male)lives an upscale middle class existance and has 5 grown kids.
Back in the dark ages, when I was in school (late 40's, 50's) it was considered normal for teen girls to have "crushes" on female teachers. Apparently boys seemed too scary or something.
No one ever thought that made the girls lesbians.
