In the Blogosphere, Lightning Strikes Thrice
By Howard Kurtz Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, February 13, 2005; Page D01
The blogosphere, with its lightning speed and rough-edged sense of justice, seems to be claiming more victims more quickly.
Three dramatic departures in recent days have highlighted the one-strike-and-you're-out nature of trial by Internet. Eason Jordan quit under pressure as CNN's chief news executive Friday night over his remarks on U.S. soldiers killing journalists in Iraq, following a relentless campaign by online critics but scant coverage in the mainstream press. In past episodes, journalists have been forced to resign, or news organizations to admit error, after Web commentators helped push a controversy into newspaper and television reports. In Jordan's case, the middle step was all but skipped.
Critics blamed the halting nature of Jordan's and CNN's defense. "Blogs are unforgiving of that lack of speedy responsiveness," says veteran magazine editor Jeff Jarvis, who blogs at buzzmachine.com. "We used to be the gatekeepers," and would grapple with criticism "in our own sweet time. You'd think we would understand the speed of news better than anybody, and we don't. We used to control that speed."

And the WaPo sued FReeRepublic and JR over printing their their content????
ESCUSE me - they printed correspondence from FR.....I've got a major problem with this.
Try as I might, I can't follow it either--so you're not alone.
Not so! Ward Churchill is still alive and well. He should be the next to resign.
Well they were private correspondence until MD4Bush posted them on a months all thread
The timing of is all smells of a set up
We just need to prove it
You're right .. thanks for pointing that out
When an elite lies about our military and we point it out we're the ones who are wrong? Gimme a break.
The little people don't know their place when dealing with the high and mighty liberal elites of CNN or CBS or the Columbia Journalism Review? Maybe the little people don't care.
Is the rise of crusading bloggers a healthy development, as many media analysts maintain, or the creation of a new Wild West with no rules or responsibilities? Hours after Jordan stepped down, Steve Lovelady of Columbia Journalism Review e-mailed his verdict to New York University professor and blogger Jay Rosen: "The salivating morons who make up the lynch mob prevail."

No problem. Thanks for pointing out the JimRob post, which I always seem to forget when summarizing.
Oh I missed that part
WOW .. so professional don't ya think ???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
But they are from FR...........
I know, I know, I know......... the whole thing just drives me insane.
The political blogs (Thank God for Jim Robinson and Free Republic) became into being because of the Main Stream Media. The BIAS of the MSM created a market and need for the blogs. If there were true balance in the media we would have an internet but we would not have blogs that are as powerful as they are. The power of the blogs is derived from the fact that the public does not trust the main stream media. Their distrust is well founded. The political blogs on the right will grow in power and influence so long as the MSM is Biased To The Left.
The entire thing totally torques me off.
When I was a reporter, that's what I was a reporter and anchor (I was in radio) I never used the terminology of "journalist." Just because they are in DC or NY or LA really doesn't make any of them any better than what I was. In fact, I was more of a "journalist" than the majority of the current crop.
The majority of them disgust me.
I've got an early morning "get-up" call, so I will wish you all a fond good night - and I will FReep at you on the morrow (or later today, depending upon your time zone)
I think that almost President Al Gore wish he had not, "invented the Internet." LOL :-)
What would that "embarrassing information" be? If he is talking about the websites they weren't his they were clients who never used them. Maybe Howie should get HIS FACTS straight. If Howie and "his friends" tried reporting news instead of making news we might be more forgiving.
What they did to Jeff is disgusting. I wonder why they don't "report" that MSNBC's Campbell Brown is the daughter of Jim Brown*, former Louisiana Insurance Commissioner, a felon convicted of insurance fraud in Louisiana who is connected to the DEMOCRAT PARTY including Edwin Edwards? I would call that closer to a political party than Jeff Gannon.
* Brown was convicted of lying to the federal agent during an interview concerning the liquidation of Cascade Insurance Co.
* The two previous Louisiana insurance commissioners were also sentenced to federal prison. Doug Green, Brown's predecessor, is serving 25 years for accepting $2 million in illegal campaign contributions from the owners of an insurance company. Sherman Bernard pleaded guilty to taking bribes disguised as campaign contributions and served 30 months.
Kurtz is a CNN stooly...
