The Washington Post, which 'broke' the story of former aide to Md. Gov. Ehrlich (R) Joseph Steffen commenting about rumors of Balt. Mayor O'Malley (D) cheating on his wife in postings on FreeRepublic, and in Freepmails, has published what can only be described as journalistic overkill in tomorrow's Sunday edition.
According to a search by Google News, The Post is publishing no less than seven articles in one edition that mention Mr. Steffen and the events leading to his resignation from the Ehrlich administration this week.
The rumors that Mr. Steffen commented on have been in circulation for several years, yet it took what appears to be a cybertrap of an unwitting Ehrlich staffer to bring the rumors to a point where they could be used by Democratic partisans for political advantage.
The Post, which was given the story by an unnamed source, is now flogging the story for all it's worth. One would think that a major newspaper with a major story would be interested in learning the whole story about how Mr. Steffen came to comment on the rumors in private messages responding to an anonymous person on the Internet so that their readers could be better informed. No dice. No mention of that angle in any of the seven, repeat: seven, articles mentioning Mr. Steffen and his political demise.
WP coverage that was truly objective and demonstrated journalistic integrity would have side by side pictures of O'Mally's wife and O'Malley's girlfriend (boyfriend?) so the WP readers could judge for themselves. Eight mentions is cleary a "where there's smoke, there's fire" kind of issue.
You gotta admire the WP for keeping the investigation of this dem sex scandal on the front burner!
Of course we all think he was baited by a reporter.
NCPAC- be careful out there.
Another bump!
The empire strikes back.
It could have been that or a Democratic operative. The thing that gets me is how could just a regular person with FR posts and FR mails even get access to the Washington Post, if that is all they had?
NCPAC posted that no one can figure out how he was outed. link
I don't see how the WP could go with this story if MD4Bush was unknown to them or did not have credentials of some kind.
Thats why I think it was a reporter, or more than one working with a Dem operative
MD4Bush was more than likely more than one person, and they targeted NCPAC from the start, the first post was to him.
Below is, Jim Robinson's short and cryptic reply re what really happened in the Md Gov mess and Free Republic:

He had to have any idea of, or know, who NCPAC was from the beginning.
Cool!
Bumping your post!
Thank you!
Yer welcome!
:)
I guess Mr. Steffen is more important than Eason Jordan. Quite an accomplishment there, to exceed the chief news executive at CNN!
And .. don't forget their beloved "abortion rights" - they are murdering themselves into oblivion.
" Just outta curiosity, how many Eason Jordan stories have appeared in the WaPo lately.
Two stories, both by Howard Kurtz, ace media reporter.

and one Saturday 02/12 again by Kurtz, only this time in was in the A section.
I'm pretty sure that by Tuesday, the WP will have tied Steffen into Abu Graib and the Lindbergh kidnapping.
Here is a major question on this issue.
HOW CAN ANYBODY TELL THE NCPAC IS ACTUALLY THE GOVERNOR'S STAFF WORKER?
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT NCPAC IS JUST SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE THAT.....WHO MAYBE WORKS WITH THE BALTIMORE NEWSPAPER?
AND THAT'S HOW NCPAC KNEW THE STORY WAS COMING OUT?
OR HAS THE GOVERNOR'S STAFF MEMBER ACTUALLY COME OUT AND SAID THAT HE WAS SAID POSTER?
IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THE MD4Bush poster is a set up guy for the Washington Post.
And keep in mind that the Washington Post is a sister publication of the NY Times.
The NY Times' Kurtz went after that Gannon guy and Talon News in his article....and used DailyKos.com as a source of the information that was floating around.
BUT KURTZ DID NOT DISCLOSE HOW ZUNIGA (DAILYKOS) COORDINATES WITH THE HOWARD DEAN CAMPAIGN AND WAS ON THE DEAN PAYROLL.
It was made public in news reports after the elections. Kurtz knew that...and should have disclosed that.
It seems to me...that those papers have made it a priority to go after conservative web sites.
MD4Bush most likely works for or with those newspapers.
