Full Probe For Army's Mud Melee (clad female military prison guards)

The Army has ordered a full-scale investigation into the sex and mud-wrestling escapade at Camp Bucca in Iraq, modeled after its sweeping probe of abuse allegations at Abu Ghraib prison.

Lt. Gen. James Helmly, commander of the Army Reserve, ordered the probe after the Sunday Daily News reported that sergeants at Camp Bucca allegedly lent their rooms to G.I.s for sex parties and arranged a wild mud-wrestling bout with scantily clad female military prison guards last year.

The investigation will be conducted under Army Regulation 15-6, the same rules that governed Gen. Antonio Taguba in his probe into the alleged torture of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison, said Maj. Michael Stella, an Army Reserve spokesman.

Helmly's order rips control of the investigation from Col. Isadore Rommes, commander of the 160th Military Police Battalion, whose soldiers allegedly organized and participated in the sexcapade.

Although the incident occurred Oct. 30, Rommes did not begin a commander's inquiry until Jan. 9 - about three months after the 160th MP Battalion had returned to its base in Tallahassee, Fla., and its members were back in civilian life.

Rommes was with the 160th when it was guarding prisoners at Camp Delta, the U.S. terror prison at Guantanamo Bay in 2002 - the same period covered in FBI memos detailing allegations of prisoner abuse there.

The mud wrestling free-for-all purportedly was staged to celebrate the departure of the 160th and the arrival of replacements from the 105th Military Police Battalion, of the North Carolina National Guard.

It happened in the same period that detainees were being transferred from Abu Ghraib to Camp Bucca. The prison, at Umm Qasr in southern Iraq, is named for New York City Fire Marshal Ron Bucca, an Army reservist who was killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

So far, only one low-ranking soldier has been disciplined.

Deanna Allen of the 105th MP Battalion was reduced in rank from specialist to private.

The 19-year-old soldier from Black Mountain, N.C., made headlines around the world after the Daily News published photos of her baring her breasts to ogling G.I.s during the mud-wrestling episode in October.

She has been muzzled by the Army. In an E-mail yesterday from Camp Bucca, Allen told The News: "I am still in Iraq and as of right now I am not allowed to answer any questions. I have been restricted."

In a series of photos leaked to The News, Allen is one of four female soldiers cavorting in a mud-filled pool clad only in bras and panties and surrounded by cheering male G.I.s.

Sergeants allegedly arranged the event and one purportedly acted as referee.

An initial military police report quotes a witness saying that other sergeants involved allegedly were lending their rooms to soldiers for sex.

I have to tell you I have mixed feelings on this news item. While I do not agree with strippers and the like, you will find many establishments of this type near most military installations. At least at all the ones I can recall from my childhood to today. There are some that are restricted, soldiers cannot frequent them, but the number is small.

So, now they are in Iraq. They are working their behinds off. They are looking for down time and way to forget of their day to day service to our country.

So, the gals got a little dirty. This might be the reason why gals should not be with the guys. So as not to step over that line of exploiting the female service members.

Did she sell secrets, did the guys pay for sex, did they strip?

They look like our Hooter girls.

I am aware of the MPs at Ft Myers cannot have women in their barracks. Many posts have that rule. Others do not. So, in Iraq they are lending their rooms for sex, it renders me speechless.

Frankly, I am stumped and it seems like there are more pressing issues out there then mud wrestling. Was the crime warrenting the punishment given to Allen?

Much ado about nothing. If they were back in the U.S. it probably would have been a snowball fight.

Forcing prisoners to get nekkid: bad
Women soldiers choosing to get nekkid: not bad.

Why is this so difficult?

That actually came to mind. There are more important issues out there. It was not proper -- but does it deserve all of this?

I'm picturing Snoop Dog advertising the next installment of 'Girls Gone Wild'.

The short answer: No.

The long answer: Hell, no.

I'm sorry FMC, but its for reasons like this that I oppose having women on the battlefields -- yes, many can fight as well as the men and are as capable, but I do believe mixing up men and women in war is not the way.

No need to be sorry, I agree with you. I have stated several times on Free Republic. This may not have been the reason I would have cited, but, now that it occurred I would use it to bolster my position on the matter.

You might not believe this but.....

At West Point we used to have "Jock Strap" rallies ..... and sometimes the female cadets would also come out and 'play' also ...

I need to take a closer look to make a sound judgement on this issue.

I just don't see anything wrong with this whatsoever. The women weren't forced to do anything, they got to blow off steam, and they made a lot of male troops smile and forget their troubles for a while.

I don't hear any of the troops complaining. I don't hear the women saying they were forced into it.

They're young adults. They're acting like young adults.

The only thing I find disgraceful is that the media chose to jum on it and print pictures.

What is ridiculous about this article is the mention of Abu Ghraib in the first sentence, as if there were any comparison whatsoever. (Where are the prisoners?)

The NY Daily Nooz is just trying to hype their own 'scoop', such as it is.

Let me see if I got this right. It's okay for male soldiers to act like idiots and blow off steam, but not for female soldiers?

So someone showed their boobs - who cares!

If anybody thinks these sex orgies are something new, I've got a bridge to sell them in Fallujah.
