If these people really believed in "mercy killing" they would take a gun and put it to her head or give the same level of mercy afforded to murderers who die by lethal injection. What they have here is the desire to murder this poor lady by slowly starving her to death. The state should be sued under the idea that what they propose in cruel and unusual punishment.
