Meet the "new faith adviser" for Democrats

Posted on 02/11/2005 11:24:18 PM PST by kcvl

Jim Wallis is a Christian leader for social change. He is a speaker, author, activist, and international commentator on ethics and public life. Wallis was a founder of Sojourners - Christians for justice and peace - more than 30 years ago and continues to serve as the editor of Sojourners magazine, covering faith, politics and culture. In 1995, Wallis was instrumental in forming Call to Renewal, a national federation of churches, denominations, and faith-based organizations from across the theological and political spectrum working to overcome poverty.

I saw this guy on FOX - what a piece of work. One of the problems is that the Dems grab onto government programs for poverty, environment etc. as proof of their owning the moral high ground.

The Repubs. have yet to adequately articulate the position that they have a better record of personal involvement in community and social issues and that this involvement is the stuff that social fabric and strong families is made of. Government solutions have been shown over and over to have created dependency and damaged the communities that they claim to help.

The Repubs hava also not articulated the superior and enduring role that private property ownership and economic incentives play in resource conservation over the horrendous unintended consequences of hardline regulatory approaches.

The liberals have a real problem. Their philosophy IS their religion. They worship it as fervently as any Christian worships God. They are now in the almost impossible position of melding the language of 2 religions into one. The only outcome of that exercise is a "message" so muddled no one will be able to understand what they are trying to say.

You're exactly right.

His recent book "God's Politics" zoomed to the top of amazon and is on the NY Times bestseller list.

It's amazing how many people with donkeys and some with elephants next to their usernames at http://www.christianforums.com have their very own interpretations of the Bible when it comes to morality or politics. They even have discussions explaining why homosexuality is NOT against what Jesus or the Bible says.

This strikes me as a very poor attempt at marketing. They're trying to say that they're not opposed to religion by hiring this fellow, when everything else they do only reinforces the truth of their hostility.

Regards, Ivan

"And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming"- 2 Thessalonians 2:8

This guy will end up in the same place as the so-called 'Archbishop of Canterbury', aka Rowan Williams:

In HELL!!!

Here's a thought. In 2008, no one Republican mentions religion or faith, just talks about the values that such persons hold dear. Would make it all obvious, wouldn't it?

Roger that. A little tinsel and holly for the tree while they ban Jesus from the public square and curse Christians for their traditional family "values."

In other words...BS.

This guy acted on H&C like he'd just graduated from the Gore/Dean School of Venom. If this is their "spiritual advisor," they're even more doomed now than they were before!

The liberals have a real problem. Their philosophy IS their religion.

That's not the only problem that liberals have with religion. Gay liberals hate religion, especially Christianity, with a passion. Go to any message board, like Doofus Underground, and read the anti-Christian rants by Gay libs. I think a sizable portion of the Democratic party isn't going to like trying to bring religion into the party.

The fact that the likes of Pelosi, Kennedy, Reid, and other Demo-socialists perceive the need for having a "faith advisor" speaks volumes about where they are coming from ideologicially. Remember that Marx originally said that "religion was the opiate of the masses." Of course, the Demo-socialists bought into that long-discredited creed hook, line, and barrel, but after essentially getting trashed in the election by moral, God-fearing Americans, they find that it has come back to bite them on the butt. Now they have to be advised on how to look devout and convince voters that "Hey, we're religious, too!" when they in fact sneer at the whole concept of evangelistic faith. Cynical and hypocritical to say the least, and thankfully they won't be fooling anyone with their shallow attempts at appearing pious.

I actually there is no such thing as a liberal evangelical.

I am not a real Jerry Falwell fan, but he is a true Evangelical.

I wanted Falwell to ask Wallis where Jesus called for taxation, where did he call for government programs and where did he call for compulsory charity.

Boy oh boy, I've seen Wallis on tv before and he was always a decent, if misguided person, something's put a bug up his wazoo. He was rude, interupting, agressive, accusatory.

He's drunk the kool-aid. Somewhere in the focus groups used by the Democrats, they came up with the idea that saying 'it's not a monologue anymore, it's a dialogue' was a winner. Oh yeah, Americans have been starved of the chance of hearing the liberal point of view. We have heard anything from liberals, those evil rightwingers control the media.

This is nutsville, folks.

This is the KOOK that was on Hannity & Colmes tonight.

Thanks. I could only catch part of it and I wondered who he was. He is rude and smarmy and will fit right in as advisor to the dems on "faith." A very unlikable guy.

He says that's "charity", it doesn't address "justice", whatever that means.

How many times did he say "your monologue is over Jerry, it's a dialogue now."

This strikes me as a very poor attempt at marketing.

If you had seen his "performance", you would realize how very bad a marketing move it is. I was listening while I went about other things, but he was so rude and offensive I had to stop and watch. Awful man.
