The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
I saw TravisMcGee mentioned over there. He's not banned here, but hasn't posted since early this month.
Are you aware that your words probably describe at least half of the FR membership? As for me, while I don't do bible-thumping I have no problem with those who strongly support and advocate religious principles; I am a life member of NRA; a bit past middle age; and I am definitely hard right rudder. I tend not to have much patience with big-tent RINO moderates, exemplified by the dolts that have hijacked the California Republican party.
Good to know what you think of us.
FR is really scaring MSM.
Whoa! Almost banned myself! Good thing I kept reading! Jim, you just keep on doing what you're doing. This forum you have created is a wonderful force for good. I support you!
I pretty much agreed with him, although maybe not quite as forceful as him.
Jim you are awesome!!!
Before Mr. Robinson hits the delete key, let me say that many of the banned posters were rule abiding Free Republic participants and some were officers in the GOP. This has nothing to do with Stormfront or racism.
My article did not say that ALL posters that disagreed with illegal immigration were banned. It says that most Freepers do not know about the purge of many Freepers that do.
I openly welcome a discussion with Mr. Robinson and the Free Republic community on this matter because Mr. Robinson has failed to respond to several attempts to get a reply from him.
I will gladly answer any reasonable questions.
Kind Regards to the Free Republic community,
William Gheen
Diva:
They did not tell any of the banned Freepers that either, they just took down their accounts without notice or explanation.

Maybe many of them do not already have family here who will take them in. Or maybe in Mass, when the season is over, it's over. Cali has a 365 day a year agriculture/construction project cycle going. There is always work. There is always an employer willing to break the law to be able to pay less and pay no taxes.
As we know so well, George Bush has been targeted by the left for everything, even the hurricanes in Florida.
If FR and the Freepers can stay as civil and above petty name-calling like Bush has done for over 4 years, then I think that will make them madder and madder.
Keeping "them" mad is a good thing---people don't organize well and think rationally when they are "mad"---just remember Howard Dean in the primarys last year!
I disagree with the President's amnesty program, and have said so here. I was not aware I had been purged. No offense, Jim, but you've got to work on your purging techniques. It's supposed to hurt.
Thanks Jim!!
Oooh!! TROLL!!
I almost pushed the ZOT button on you.

"The long-standing posting guidelines for this site are clear and simple. It's unfortunate that some people violate them, but I'm glad you took the time to reaffirm the philosophy and policies of Free Republic.
I agree and join with you in thanking Jim for reaffirming the philosophy and policies of Free Republic. "
Alamo-Girl:
I was banned for some policy that was neither clear, simple, or posted, as were many others.
Please give consideration to the opinions of those that can't answer Mr. Robinson because he has taken their voice from FR.
