Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Gee, if I was illiterate, how could you read and respond to the replies I write.

I said you were getting illiterate, not I. And you just proved it again.

Eventually, regardless of what we do, the situation in Mexico will explode. We should get prepared, and then let it happen.

That's exactly right. The reason Vicente Fox and his cohorts are pushing their guest worker plan is that they very much fear being overthrown --- not just a political party but the entire corrupt Mexican government will be overthrown without 2 million Mexicans leaving every year. There is no more hope in Mexico. For the time being our leaders in the USA are allowing the Mexican leaders to dictate the terms of our immigration policies to help them stay in power as long as possible because as bad as they are they are seen as some kind of stability. But the massive exodus of people out is actually making everything worse in Mexico.

I meant to say far-right and center-left.

Wait a minute, so you're saying that center-left wants to clamp down on illegal immigration, and far-right wants to clamp down on illegal immigration, but center-right doesn't? Are there any other issues with such a curious pattern of opinion?

Center left belonged to Bush these past elections.

Bush got votes from many people who are vehemently opposed to his immigration policies. We already knew that.

I think it's a good strategy on Hillary's part, but I don't think she can pull it off because of lack of credibility.

The two that worry me in 08 are Bill Richardson and Mark Warner. With their fairly unknown records on this issue, they can possibly pull off the triangulation strategy.

But with the newfound popularity and the hits FR has made against MSM, you can bet there are powerful forces arrayed aginst us now.

There are a couple posters that are likely on the payroll of the Mexican government. They don't seem to care about Bush really --- and I think if Bush were to reverse himself on the open borders issue, a couple would turn on him very fast. It doesn't seem to be Bush they're protecting ---- but Vicente Fox and his government.

I love the Buchanan lines, since JimRob supported Buchanan over Bush.

Guaranteed that most of these fools would regret its passing with the same fervor they're now (wittingly or unwittingly) advocating its demise.

Very true.

"I think it's a good strategy on Hillary's part, but I don't think she can pull it off because of lack of credibility."

Credibility has never been of much concern to either of the Clintons. I'm sure she doesn't stay up nights about it, just as I am sure she'll do/say anything to keep in the news and thwart discovery of her REAL agendas.

Had I wanted to say that, I would have said that wouldn't I?

But I did not.

Obviously, and with the known support of far-right FReepers for Hillary's campaign in 2008, there are some who are less than enchanted with an individual (President Bush) who is actively looking for a plan, and will willingly buy oil sold by any snake oil salesman that makes promises.

Thus Hillary and immigration.

Well, then what was your point of including far-rightists and center-leftists in the same statement? Are you saying that there's some commonality of opinion between the two groups on this subject that isn't shared by center-rightists?

I never thought of that. You could be right.

It make some sense since those possible suspects show little interest in keeping our sovereignty.

"I've long said that everyone's got an agenda, that's certainly the case here. Mr. Tabor and Mr. Gheene have their own sites and message boards. FR's been in the news lately through the whole Martin O'Malley affair. During the last 3 years here, the four issues I've seen the most heat against Bush have been the Patriot Act, BICRA(McCain/Feingold), the AWB(dead for now), and our borders. The border issue has been the most in the news. There's the hot iron, and those two struck it for all it's worth. "

Gheen worked for Vernon Robinson and then his organization ALIPAC endorsed Virginia Foxx for the General election when Vernon lost the run off. Your theory does not fit just like Robinson's theory that he banned everyone for being with Stormfront does not add up. These are good fellow conservatives you are bashing.

Remember, Mexico voted against the UN resolution, didn't they?

There are a lot of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans that will tell you that California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas are still rightfully Mexican property---I think those people are stirring up a lot of this---that is prolly why the danger along the border is getting worse---

I guess they just don't worry that the "Imperialist America" is gonna swoop down and "occupy" them, like we are supposed to have done in Iraq

None of the usual Malkinbots will be able to meet that challenge. They are lying, but sadly, I fear that their lies are carrying the issue.

The right fringe isolationists like Malkin and Buchanan are being propped up by the MSM. The MSM knows how they look to average voters. Don't sweat it. If their forces had any power Dubya would not be President, and the House and Senate would be filled with Tancredos.

A rule for successful politicians is "don't take on an issue you can't win." The fact that Dubya is taking this one on indicates he thinks he can pass a guest worker program. He's a pretty persuasive guy and the battle is only just starting.

My spell checker suggests "Malignants" as the first correction for "Malkinbots"

Google "Michelle Malkin" and immigration, and tell me how many MSM hits you get.

The fact that Dubya is taking this one on indicates he thinks he can pass a guest worker program. He's a pretty persuasive guy and the battle is only just starting.

Any speculations as to the arguments he'll put forth as to why his plan is better than Tancredo's, despite the fact that the main sticking point is merely that Tancredo would require that aliens apply for the program from their own countries?

I just want to apologize to everyone. I came on here yesterday and fell for Jim Robinsons racists are banned accusations hook line and sinker. Then I saw one of my posts pulled when I linked to another site. My eyes are open now. I've called Mr. Gheen and looked into things further since then. You guys zotted a lot of Republicans yesterday including officers and one Republican elected official. I fell for it and now I know better. I'm sorry I called the banned racists. JR should do the same. I'm out of here and I will never be back. This is a shameful sham.
