Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

state by state declare their independence from Mexico and then petition to join the USA

Excellent.

And we could do that just like we did Texas. Invade Mexico as immigrants in the border states and start taking over.

Are the "macquillas" (?) border businesses? They could be the cells for radicalizing the Mexican people to the American Way.

I don't have any handy stats on that --- but massive migration of people out of Mexico is actually making things worse in Mexico. Abandoned women and children --- children raised without parents, villages where virturlly all the working age have left and all that remains are the very old and very young.

Mexico has a tremendous problem with abandoned children living in the streets of all it's cities and most of it's towns. It's imploding --- and we might think we're preventing problems with allowing unlimited numbers to come here but it's really just making things worse. Massive migration of people results from instability but it leads to more instability --- and it's the injustice in Mexico that is driving this.

Sounds like Africa and HIV.

In about ten years, Mexico's fertilily rate will be down to 2.1. It is about 2.4 I think now. The problem now is not so much an exploding population, but a population with enough skills that those skills are highly marketable in the US, with an internal support infrastructure in the US, and an economy in Mexico still so dysfunctional due to corruption and portectionism, that the wage gap remains huge. In any event, in about 15 years, I suspect threads will be more about the Asian influx, particularly of the Muslim variety, but in general, and little will be posted about Hispanics. Europe has a huge appetite for them anyway, and it will not be long before that continent absorbs the majority (it might be near 20% now). Give that one maybe 10 years.

Yet all the fuss and disdain is aimed at Mexico. All the complaints are about Mexico.

Duh! That's because most of the problems are coming from Mexico! If it was illiterate Canadians coming across our northern border causing all the problem we're seeing from those crossing our southern border, then we'd start complaining more about them. Do you have some idea that we have to be egalitarian in what people from what nations we complain about? In your mind, do we spend too much time complaining about the French and not enough complaining about the Swiss?

They could be the cells for radicalizing the Mexican people to the American Way.

Deporting even just a few million of the Mexican illegals would likely accomplish just that. Imagine millions of people who learned to drive cars and/or tractors---- many of whom never rode in a car until they arrived in the USA much less drove them --- returning home and being content to plow behind a burro like they've been forced to all these years. Millions of people who have seen with their own eyes how it's possible for the majority of Americans to live a comfortable middle class lifestyle.

Very likely it wouldn't be the picture that the scared-silly are painting --- Mexico might not explode --- it would have the makings of a middle class. The deportation would actually be the return of the would-be middle class --- further strengthened by some exposure to the American middle class.

"The vast majority of Freepers on this thread are PRO-strong borders."

That's no surprise.

To: Wardaddy: "It must kill you to read ALL these posts proving that the vast majority of Freepers are NOT vigilant anti-Hispanic."

"Howlin said those Freepers are NOT vigilant anti-Hispanics."

However, what IS Howlin implying of Wardaddy?

Doesn't sound right to me.

Anyhow you don't know that Mexico would explode. Even if the elite pack their bags and get out quickly --- and maybe there would be some bloodshed --- but there's bloodshed now. The status quo is what is dangerous.

you're right, of course. So lets say we only stop 80% of the invaders. Is that such a BAD thing? Union labor? Who need union labor? we have the SeaBees and the US Army Corps of Engineers. We have prison labor. We have hundreds of thousands of illegals sitting on their butts in jail. We have contactors who are employing illegals and can be court-ordered to work for nothing as part of their restitution for employing illegals, in lieu of jail or closing them down, using those same illegals prior to deportation. The possibilities are almost endless. Further, the conscripted labor of employers of illegals and their illegal employees, then deportation, would yank the incentive from those who would otherwise be repeat offenders. You just have to think a bit unconventionally to see the possibilities.

I'm with you there. We supported W for his character and I am willing to trust him to make a decision that is best for the country. Solving this issue is more complicated than it appears. However I would agree with those that want the border protected now, not reviewed or put on the back burner for further study.

the injustice in Mexico that is driving this.

You've got to be careful when you talk about "injustice".

Some people use that word to mean workers should all be given a good wage, a health plan, worker's compensation, unemployment insurance and a 3 week vacation for a 40 hour week.

And you end up driving all the employers out of business.

People get the government they tolerate. Ultimately it's up to the people to correct the problem. They are not victims of their government; they are enablers of their government because they fall for the horse pucky that the government should "give" them all this stuff.

And then the "government" ends up with all the guns and the vote counters, and makes it really hard to change things.

Maybe that one poster is right. After the bracero program ended and all those workers exposed to American Way went home, things got better in Mexico for a while.

I wish we weren't heading for that same tolerance of corruption here. The State of Washington has me worried. As Stalin said (paraphrased), you don't need to win the votes, only the power to count the votes.

This may be as good a thread as any to talk about how much Free Republic means to me.

I've been privileged to be part of this wonderful place for over four years now, posting the Pray for President Bush thread and the Dose, enjoying good conversations on ATRW, FR's Finest, reading voraciously to get all the information I can on a broad number of topics from abortion to evolution, immigration to elections, the economy to foreign policy, and entering in where I can, but mostly just learning..........soaking up the knowledge of a vast number of educated, intelligent, well-reasoned people, some of whom I agree with, and some of whom I don't.

I have prayed with others, and had them pray with me. I was literally held up by the prayers of hundreds of fellow freepers for the 13 months our son, Eric was deployed in Iraq.........I don't know how I would have made it through those days without that support.

I have laughed with others, been a bit 'randy' at times, been involved with some heated, but respectful debates, and stood up for the President when he was being mindlessly attacked.

I worked like crazy with fellow Ohioan freepers to make sure President Bush got reelected, and have made dear friends from California to Maine, and Washington to Florida.

I used to let the people with nasty dispositions and their false accusations against me, get to me........but after four years, I realize that for every one of you nasties (F16....that's YOU), there are hundreds of other respectful, decent people with whom you can engage in honest debate, and disagree honorably.

That's a long way of saying that I love this place. Jim........ the whole of your creation has become much greater than the sum of its parts. It is a wonderful force for good in the world, which is why the forces of darkness are seeking to destroy it.

In short, Mr. Robinson, THANK YOU for what you've done to make this all happen. I will be eternally grateful.

Not all who claim to be conservatives really are. Some are just trollish infiltrators, drunk on their own cleverness.
And trying to give FR a black eye. I have no doubt that the MSM (I prefer lamestream media - but can't credit the origin) would love to marginalize FR by tying them to whacko militant groups. Keep a sharp lookout Jim! ;-)

It would be difficult to count the number of surviving FReepers who have criticized Dubya's immigration stances and those of other federal agencies including Homeland Security but if you're going to bother put me on both sides as I see the danger but know real people who benefit from the illegal but but commonplace reality.

Yeah, I know what you're saying; but, IMHO, if war breaks out here, I doubt very much that latinos will start it, much less do so in order to take over the southwest. If something starts, IMO, it will be amongst naturalized Americans of all ethnic backgrounds who have felt disenfranchised, disowned and violated by their so-called representatives. There will be a civil war here before there is an invasion from Mexico. And I think the markers are all present for war here. I don't want to see it happen; but, I'm also sure Washington, Franklin, et al did not want war in their time either. Evil proliferates when good men fail to act. And if war breaks out here, I'm sure those words will be associated with it. Not any latino nationalist goofyness - with all due respect. Mexico would become a grease spot and a new desert state in our union if they tried anything and I'm pretty sure they know it LOL.

Ask all the pro-migra victors today if they want the illegals deported?

I know one who has already said no.

They claim they are not open borders or pro-illegals but will they send the illegals back. Will they close the borders? Are they willing to reduce immigration back to a trickle of legals and political refugees as it should be..in my view. Anything beyond that should be strictly controlled guest workers like the truck farming workers when I was a kid.

And while we are at it. Lets'have a poll to see how many freepers support W's immigration proposal....his party and most leading righty pundits don't? but let's check freeperdom.

That little poll today was a bit of a push poll...lol

Do you support illegal immigration?...lol....not many will cop to that.

Let's see what the division is here twixt those who support W's vision on this and who don't. I would sincerely like to know.....I'm only seeing a lot of noise...including my own admittedly.
