Bear Stearns Says Government Vastly Underestimates Size And Cost Of Illegal Immigration (courtesy of John & Ken) The Wall Street investment firm Bear Stearns has published a new report, The Underground Labor Force is Rising to the Surface, which claims that the illegal alien population is double the official government estimates. According to Bear Stearns analysts, Robert Justich and Betty Ng, the illegal alien population of the U.S. is about 20 million - roughly the population of New York State. The report asserts that there are between 12 and 15 million jobs in the U.S. currently held by illegal aliens, or about 8 percent of the work force. Moreover, between 4 and 6 million jobs have shifted to the underground economy since 1990. These are not jobs Americans wont do, but rather jobs Americans used to do. The United States is simply hooked on cheap, illegal workers and deferring the costs of providing public services to these quasi-American, conclude Justich and Ng. Read the report here (.pdf file).

They are jobs Americans "won't" do because we "can't" do them because they've been given to an off-the-books worker. An illegal, if you will.
They need to go after those hiring these people. I know that's stating the obvious, but it's not obvious enough for our government.
The way they chop it off at the end is akin to the way the rat's talk about A Woman's Right To Choose... (choose what?).
Toward the end of the Clinton admin they actually instituted a regulation that if someone hires an illegal alien and then discovers they are illegal and fires them for that reason, it is an illegal form of "discrimination in hiring."
I kid you not!
Most of them are below minimum wage, and because of the people being illegal, the employers will sometimes not even pay the contracted wage, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO.
Enough said. Disgusting.
That is a good idea. However, the entire legislative arm of the government is afraid of Vincente Fox.
I know.
A "Doesn't this just boil your gizzard?" ping.
The numbers are about right, to my observation.
Of course this adds votes to liberals. Because most of the illegals are in liberal states like California, New York and Ill. They are counted as residents and apportionment gives more seats to those states. Because of this some esitmate there are as many as 5 seats wrongly distributed.
"Most of them are below minimum wage, and because of the people being illegal, the employers will sometimes not even pay the contracted wage, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO."
Exactly! But the stupid thing is, if you give them amnesty (as GWB is doing whether that's what he calls it or not) you make them 'legal' in a way - then they won't have any reason to accept the lower pay that makes them desirable to employers. However, it will then be impossible to get rid of them, as they will be eligible for welfare and all the other goodies that now create "Americans who won't do the jobs they used to do." THEN we'll have all the social and economic problems, without ANY of the so-called benefits of hiring people 'under the table.' Very short-sighted.
No white farmer or labor contractor would DARE expose themselves to the legal locusts that swarm in states like CA. Whether in the CA fields or the sweatshops in NYC it is Mexican (and Chinese etc.) business owners and contractors that victimize their own.
Also, something to remember when a contractor brings illegal alien help to work on your home. YOU CAN BE SUED FOR INJURIES ON THE JOB. My sister has had this happen to her now TWICE. There is a down side to this cheap labor thing.
Hmm, I'm not sure and don't have statistics on that, but you may be right.
