LANCASTER - A 13-year-old Amargosa Creek Middle School student ended up in the hospital after being attacked at school Monday by three other students who allegedly were trying to take his shiny belt buckle. Sheriff's officials say the assailants, ages 11, 12 and 13, will be charged with attempted robbery and assault.
"There's no doubt it was a vicious attack," said Capt. Carl Deeley, commander of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station. "It could have been far more serious."
The victim reportedly suffered a broken nose and bruises during the lunchtime attack. He reportedly tried to push away the suspects after they allegedly tried to steal his spinning wheel rim belt buckle.
"He pushed them away, they pushed back. Then they started kicking him," Deeley said.
A school vice principal had to physically pull the attackers off the victim, who was curled on the floor trying to protect himself from the blows, according to Deeley.
Authorities may also seek charges against the mother of two of the suspects, who came to the school after the fight and allegedly created a disturbance that included racial slurs directed toward deputies.
"When one of the parents came and saw that the sheriff's deputy was questioning her son, she started saying the deputies were only doing so because he was black," Smith said.
Deeley added, "It was pretty ugly."
Although the victim and suspects were of different races, school officials say the attack was not racially motivated. The fight was simply a dispute over the belt buckle, according to Scott J. Smith, director of pupil safety and attendance for the Lancaster School District.
"There wasn't any racial tension between the students," Smith said. "It was over a belt buckle."
Sheriff's officials say there are rarely problems or assaults at the school.
Smith agreed.
"I see it as an isolated incident, and disciplinary action will be taken," he said. "It seems like a pretty straight forward thing to me."
Smith could not say whether the students will face suspension, expulsion or another punishment.
"It was a serious issue, and it will dealt with seriously," he said.
The mother's harsh words are not the school's direct concern, Smith said.
"As far as I know, that's between her and the Sheriff's Department at this point," he said.
School administrators were unavailable for comment

LOL!!! I was only half kidding! Spinners seem to hold a strange fascination for some socioeconomic classes...., and were involved in at least 2 football player deaths in FL this winter.
You should NEVER try and take a man's belt buckle. Hard-earned they are.

The students in our school district have become obnoxious and disgusting. They are becoming more and more uncontrollable. The school bus drivers have their hands full what with driving and trying to keep the kids under control. The people in charge are blaming the bus drivers even though they basically do nothing promptly to discipline to the kids. Unfortunately, the school board and the administrators want all of this shoved under the rug. One of these days the crap will hit the fan when they have a full blown riot with these kids! Their language is as foul as it gets and they have absolutely NO respect for anyone including themselves. I guess we've boosted their self-esteem so much that they think they are in charge!!
Society's downward spiral is accelerating.
