WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As the Democratic National Committee opens its annual meeting, a new poll of DNC members suggests party leaders want to see some serious changes and believe former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean will do an excellent job as party chairman.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Thursday indicates the members who chose to reply to the survey also overwhelmingly believe the party should draw clear distinctions between itself and the GOP and should work to defeat the Republican agenda over the Bush administration's final four years.

"survey said that the socially liberal/fiscally conservative Dean would make an excellent chairman"

Since when has the Dean-iac been fiscally conservative? I hate the way this is reported as though it were a fact!

Does the migration of conservative democrats to the Republican party count?

For some reason I want the Viking Kitties to rally behind Dean and RUSH him into office! A great victory for the Republican party should be celebrated as such with much meowing and raising of kittyswords!

It is the end of the Democratic Party as we know it!

The Rats and their support for this idiot is akin to a three year old running the household and having mom & dad accepting his terms and conditions. How sad this great party can come to this!

A lot of people already perceive Dean as unstable. It will really be fun to watch the Dems go into damage control mode if he has another "emotionally charged moment". Outburst #2 could create a real image problem for the Dems.

When I read this I got goose bumbs. I became a Reaganite one year into his first term. Through all the ups and downs - from the Gingrich to Clinton I have hoped and prayed for the total downfall of the socialists. With Dean ahead of DNC that day seems to be in sight. Just one final thing to do - STOP Hitlery in 2008.

Oh, don't worry, this guy, Howard Dean will go bananas again and again. Like Gore, Kerry, Kennedy, Dayton, etc., Mr. Dean is mentally unbalanced. He'll be okay until he gets on a talk show with Ken Mehlman, and when Mehlman pins him to the wall, he'll go crazy again!!! He is a nut case!!! Count on it!!!

But the demise of the dems is in itself a dangerous precedent! You run the risk of having a one party state. Arrogance is what inevitably follows. What will be interesting is that if Hitlerry is soundly beaten (with the largest majorities in the history of US elections)you may have seen the last vestiges of the loony left unravel and lose their grip on the levers of power.

he backs gun rights and a balanced budget, the democrats claim he's only liberal on the war, but he strongly favors abortion, sexual orientation and is against privatizing social security and plenty more. Go to this site http://www.issues2000.org/Howard_Dean.htm where it says he's a hard core liberal.

Yes, indeedy.

I'm also looking forward to the friction between the "The Screamer" and "The Beast".

Talk about entertainment!

Hmm, if wants a balanced budget and opposes SS reform; then he must be pro-tax.

Yeah, Dean's a nut case for sure. The fanatical left will gravitate to him and this coterie will become the face, if not the soul, of the party. Its going to be a real circus that may yield even bigger Republican gains than during the McAullife era.
