"I'm stunned anyone on this forum would defend the traitor."
Read my post again. I give a damn about Stewart, and I am certainly not defending her. What I am worried about is the government trying to use its power to bully defense lawyers in other cases, including any attempts to increase the use of SAMs.
Always keep an eye on the ball. Never trust the government to cabin new powers to use against "traitors." Think about how RICO quickly expanded from its stated purpose of use against mobsters and right into attacking legitimate political protest like that done by anti-abortion groups.
She's a CONVICTED criminal, now.
I believe she used to work with William Kuntsler all the time.
Now we have to see the sentencing and then "Grandma Goes to Jail".
I am thrilled with the verdict.
Tip of the hat to you, Tex. Looks like we've bagged another lib terrorist sympathizer, hopefully. Apparently the old punishments for treason aren't in place, which is a pity.
How 'bout that fur cap? I guess she's still reporting from the politburo even after the Soviets are gone.
Actually, we still have Soviets. They live right here. We've got one teaching in Colorado masquerading as an Indian I hear.
I'll believe that this whole thing'll stand when I see it with my own eyes. That lady is a sneaky bugger, that's for sure.
I love your tagline, by the way. Well, here's to you, one Jesuslander to another.
You are defending her. You are so upset she was convicted you had to break cover to support her.
Leni
It needs to be a pretty big boat for there lots of them that belong in it. Tow it out past the twelve-mile limit and use it for torpedo practice.
Even if she isn't a flight risk. She is going to jail. The only question is how long. So she gets bail??? It just doesn't make any sense.
"You are defending her. You are so upset she was convicted you had to break cover to support her."
Which part of "don't like the precedent" is defending the person. Oh, that's right, no part of it. If you like state power so much, why are you on a conservative site?
There are people in our society who actually DO kill American citizens.
There should be a tar pit for creatures like this mess of a female; Ward Churchill...and the rest of the ad nauseum mutants percolating to the surface of our wonderful nation.
I'm sure the dog would do the doggie variation of Navy Seal Rules for what to do if you see a Great White, "knaw one of my legs off so I can't run, then he'd run for the border headed in the opposite direction. Smart dog.
I'm not joining in saying you are defending her. But I do think this is not a case of a dangerous growth of state power. It is a good thing if the State exercises power to defend itself and its citizens. It would be tough to think that there are many parallel cases waiting out there of innocent people smuggling messages into prisons which will put us on a slippery slope of these kinds of prosecutions.
Ultimately, Ms. Stewart got the best bulwark against runaway state power: a jury of her peers. The people, you might say, have spoken. Go to jail. Do not pass go.
If Stewart had been found not guilty it would have had to be due to problems with the evidence or with the government's case, right? The jury would not have been instructed to find her not guilty if the jury decided that SAMs were unconstitutional, right? So where does the slippery slope come in that conservatives should be wary of endorsing?
This hasn't been as much of a conservatively principled site since the molester left the oval oriface. As long as power is yielded by "our team" it can violate conservative principles and be lauded here.
In 3.5 years a blatent (as opposed to latent) socialist will inherit the triangulation Bush has brought us, and the coolaid slurpers will be squealing in protest, once again citing constitutional limitations and yearning for limited government. For now though, worship of the veto-less wonder is a popular tonic to cure the post-Clinton hangover. That's the trouble with collectivism, you can't fight it with more counter-collectivism.
good.
YEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAA!
And I say that as a born and raised New Yorker. I hope this commie slime never sees the light of day again.
Poke Mullah Omar's other eye out and both problems are solved!
