"Who is Russell Means?"

One leader of AIM (American Indian Movement).

In the mid 70's, I was in Lame Deer, MT reading meters. Guy came out of his house and we started talking. I asked if he knew Russell. He was his brother. He told me Russell was really whacked out. I believe him...

There you go!
I largely agree.
Of course, if the soft-hearted, soft-headed folks want to give gobs of low interest business loans because of 1/16th ancestry (never mind the Frenchmen and Dutchmen who were anything but poor), well, a loan's a loan I say.

But where's the list of the prescribed tribes.
Cheyenne and Ojibwa are on it, but how about the Carib?

Sounds like a total moron, I wonder why Sean had him on in the first place.

Because Sean is smart. The worst thing you can do to these loony leftists is let them actually get their honest word out. Once you hear what they really think they're screwed.

At the rate that they are self immolating I wonder if there will be 18 votes for Dem candidates in '06.

I grew up w/a ton of 'em in NM, fell in love with, and had a relationship w/a former Miss Indian USA.

My ex-wife is 1/2, and my kids are now 1/4.

I also worked for an Indian business for years.

The ones I know are the funniest guys and gals you'd ever want to meet. Great sense of humor. They don't take Russel Banks, Dennis Banks, or people like Ward Churchill even remotely seriously.

If you want to see someone get vigorously denounced, see what they do to phony Indians. They are more serious about it than veterans are.

The average Joes love the Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, and Atlanta Braves, even if they live 1000's of miles away. They are for the most part proud of the names.

They make fun of the college Indians, and think they are more "Apple" (red on the outside, white on the inside) than anyone wearing a 'Skins jacket on the rez.

I knew several New Mexico AIM guys back in the 70's.

The hardcore radicals typically come out of the career student, hippie-magnet universities like UNM, CU Boulder, Berkely, etc. (surprise, surprise), and have been taught to hate by the likes of Margaret Randall (google her for a laugh sometime), and the old-line Marxist radicals.

Russell Means and Dennis Banks had a big power struggle for leadership of AIM years ago, and Russell has been bitter about losing ever since.

Some folks think he has sold out for Hollywood fame, but hey a guy's gotta make a buck.

Anyway, that's my take. It's worth what ya paid for it.

Means gave a great speech several years ago supporting private property rights and blasting the eco-fascist movement. He warned property owners that they were the next "indians" to get their land stolen by government.

I can't figure his support for Churchill. I know Means is a publicity hound; however, he could have gotten great PR by binding Churchill to a post near an anthill and pouring honey on him

I can't figure out Russell. In 1979, I actually got fairly well acquainted with him as a campus news reporter, even shuttling him from the airport a time or two on the way to and from speaking engagements.

I met him in Japan about 10-12 years later and did what I could to help him get some sales outlets for Indian-produced products. He was always a gentleman during our encounters and even helped John Thune topple Tom Daschle last year.

All I can figure is too much peyote in his youth is finally cathing up with him.

Tereza Hines was right to say, "there are scumbags everywhere".

The chief "SCUMBAG" is Russell Mean-spirit!

What ignorance and arrogance all rolled up into that America hater. A true zombie in denial!

Hey look at it this way. Guys like Means and Churchill derive their pride by claiming 3/16ths Indian ancestory or whatever. That's pathetic. The accomplishment of being an Indian is no more meaningful that managing to be born blond or with a mole on your lip.

What matters is what you do. Means is an activist hanger on that spends all his time insisting on special treatment cause his great grandfather drew a raw deal. Churchill's accomplishments appear to be seriously tainted by plagerism and fabrication. Although these are supposedly the greatest sins in academia I doubt if he'll be held to account.

Still they are frauds that in the end result have wasted their lives to no purpose and now people know it.

Anybody who fought on Bouganville is by definition a hero regardless of race or anything else.

FWIW, Russell had nothing to do with the assassination of a couple of FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He wasn't even in the general vicinity. He did, however, promote the theory that Leonard Peltier was a fall guy for those who did. The evidence at Peltier's trial, however, more than suggests otherwise.

The same judge and prosecuter who convicted Peltier also convicted the confederates of Gordon Kahl in the February 1983 shoot-out at Medina, North Dakota which left two U.S. Marshalls dead. From what I read of that trial, it wasn't exactly on the up-and-up, so I can't help thinking there is a chance Means might be right about Peltier. The fact that the jury refused to impose the death penalty in the Peltier case indicates that they may have had their doubts as well. North Dakota's capital murder statues are so narrowly defined as to almost be non-existent, so I don't beleive prosecutor Lynn Crooks even sought it in the Kahl case. South Dakota, however, does have a clear death penalty statue.

I agree but the poster quoted to me a paragraph about the code talkers. My comments were about them.

Dennis Banks has issued a statement overtly against Churchill. In no uncertain terms.

He's a 70s AIM activist who lost any relavence years ago. When I was stationed at Rapid City 15 years ago he was running a local limosine service.

Hey, I agree with Russell Means about something!
"Means said that he prefers the label "Indian" to the more politically correct "Native American." "Everyone who is born in America is a native American, " he said."

Thanks for the info. I knew it had something to do with AIM but didn't research or know the particulars.

Russel Means played Chingatchcook(sp) in the movie "Last of the Mohicans". He did a rather decent job of acting. He hasn't been seen in much since. He was active in AIM (American Indian Movement) for years and is considered a far left radical.

As soon as Means started answering Sean's first question, I changed the channel. Is it safe to come back?

The Pentagon was a legit military target? The 9/11 attackers were responding to our sins against them? We are cowards for dropping bombs and missiles from miles away?

Were Churchill's comments taken from the MSM "journalists" and other media / Hollywood jerks?

ABC news executive Westin responding to a Columbia student's question:

"The Pentagon as a legitimate target? I actually don't have an opinion on that and it's important I not have an opinion on that as I sit here in my capacity right now. . . I can say the Pentagon got hit, I can say this is what their position is, this is what our position is, but for me to take a position this was right or wrong, I mean, that's perhaps for me in my private life, perhaps it's for me dealing with my loved ones, perhaps it's for my minister at church. But as a journalist I feel strongly that's something that I should not be taking a position on. I'm supposed to figure out what is and what is not, not what ought to be."

Within hours of 9/11/01 the editors of the Sacramento Bee blamed us in part for the attacks. We do not try to understand the rest of the world. It was only a matter of time.

Bill Maher: "We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly," said Maher. "Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

There's a controversy raging in Sacramento. A lefty hung a U.S. soldier in effigy blaming his "death" on the President ("Your tax dollars at work" read the sign around the "soldier's" neck.)

The disgusting display was on the lefty's property, a rental home he owns. He lives in Berkeley, Both he and his wife are lawyers it appears.

What if another's effigy was a lawyer? The former is "free speech" and the latter is not. Bet on it. That's how liberals feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel.
