They were once alive according to your own theories. Sorry, you have to start without Carbon based products.

A virus is not even close to life?

A virus doesn't metabolize, as far as I know. It's little more than an RNA/DNA injector and we were already able to make those without claiming they were "alive". Remind me what taxonomic kingdom are the viruses in?
