The conservative reporter who asked President Bush a loaded question at a news conference last month resigned yesterday after liberal bloggers uncovered his real name and raised questions about his background.
Jeff Gannon, who had been writing for the Web sites Talon News and GOPUSA, is actually James Dale Guckert, 47, and has been linked to online domain addresses with sexually provocative names. He has been under scrutiny since asking Bush how he could work with Senate Democratic leaders "who seem to have divorced themselves from reality." The information about Gannon was posted on the liberal sites Daily Kos, Atrios and World o' Crap.

Gannon's resignation highlights the no-holds-barred atmosphere of the Web, which both enabled him to function as a reporter--his stories appeared on a site founded by Texas Republican activist Bobby Eberle--and produced a swarm of critics determined to expose him.
Among the domain names registered by Gannon's company several years ago, but never launched, were Hotmilitarystud.com, Militaryescorts.com and Militaryescortsm4m.com, along with Exposejessejackson.com. The bloggers also have linked to a since-withdrawn America Online photo of a man who appears to be Gannon, posing in his underwear, with a screen name bearing the initials "JDG." Markos Moulitsas, a San Francisco liberal who writes the popular Kos site, said of Gannon: "He has been extremely anti-gay in his writings. He's been a shill for the Christian right. So there's a certain level of hypocrisy there that I thought was fair game and needed to be called out."

Several White House correspondents say they saw Gannon wearing what appeared to be a permanent White House pass with his picture and pseudonym--legal names are generally required because of the Secret Service background check--and that McClellan sometimes called on Gannon when he wanted a softer question.

And didn't every single candidate he endorse actually lose their elections? Every one of them.
Very true, I guess Howie can't get his eyes off of World O' Crap.
According to the link I posted on #116 ... Yes, they did lose
2004 campaign fundraising
Daily Kos readers gave approximately $500,000 in user donations to chosen Democratic candidates denoted as most needing of the funds in the 2004 elections. All of these candidates lost. However, Moulitsas had stated that he was deliberately selecting candidates who were not receiving significant financial support from other sources; candidates who were expected to win or even be competitive were, by and large, already being funded by the DNC, DCCC, and other national and regional organizations
It's the liberal way ..
I tried to read the link but I have to say the small type and reading style is so annoying that I have a hard time sticking with their posts over there.
Have to give credit to Little Green Footballs .. they saw right through DKos also

ROTFLMAO...good one!
I love how a group of people can find a hole in everything. They effectively tried to completely ruin the 2004 Weblog Awards.
Thanks members of the comment section at Daily Kos publishing automated voting code weve had to enforce strict IP checking for the polls. I had hoped that people would be able to conduct themselves in a civilized manner, but apparently that was too much to ask. Once the code got into circulation many of the sites nominated for Best Overall Blog got help by automated bots designed to continuously vote.
Those sites have been blocked permanently from accessing this site, but theres no way to stop future attacks short of limiting each IP address to one vote every 24 hours. Unfortunately this will affect AOL users and those behind corporate firewalls. The denizens of Daily Kos have left me no alternative.
I find it very amusing that the group of people claiming the 2004 election was rigged are the same people rigging these awards. They make me completely sick.

I think it's working ... from 8.7% to 9.2% in a couple minutes.
Amazing indeed. Good find, Mo1.
Did you sleep at ALL last night?

In a matter of hours, Daily Kos and Eschaton have come out of nowhere to lead the Wizbang "Best Blog" competition. Maybe a whole lot of liberals just discovered the contest, and maybe someone stuffed the ballot box. In any event, we don't mind (much) getting edged out by Glenn Reynolds or Charles Johnson, but we really, really don't want to lose to Markos Moulitsos or Atrios. If you go here, you can vote once per day per computer.
UPDATE by BIG TRUNK: Charles the Great renders his verdict with his usual acuity in "These people are nuts."
Yep .. I made the mistake of going to bed early though .. which meant that I got up early
I really need too correct/fix my sleep pattern .. LOL
Lovely language over there. They sound like 15 year olds.
The best work gets done overnight sometimes, but I don't know how you manage during the day. It's like having a third shift job or something :-)
If you have issues with me or Kurtz or want to smear all 'blogs' like the rest of the MSM, google away and demonstrate it's a load of b.s. I'm perfectly willing to accept that the MSM is wrong. It's been wrong before. But I doubt it is in this instance.
As to your request that I delineate exactly what makes me think you don't have any problem with Jeff Gannon's behavior, you posted "What exactly is there for Jeff Gannon to hide, since you seem so familiar with him?" You implied that YOU think there is nothing to hide stated in the article. That is why I ask you to post those photos, because you evidently think that the behavior cited in the article is NOT something to hide. But you knew that.
I HOPE that it's all Kurtz puffing, that this man resigned for no reason. I'd LIKE to think otherwise. But I don't, because I doubt that even the MSM would have posted this about the pictures from thin air. You ask if "I'm new to this." I'm not so new I've missed experiencing your posts before. It's obvious you care very intensely that Gannon not have anything said against him, and I believe it's simply because he's a fellow traveler in the conservative ranks. Early experience with you demonstrated to me that you simply find unacceptable any criticism of Republicans, merited or no.
Unfortunately, I occasionally make the mistake of thinking some folks like yourself will realize that's wrongheaded. Rest assured, I will not make that error with you again, or post to you again. I apologize for affronting you with that which you find so offensive.
You've defended other Republicans in the same bulldog fashion, and while I appreciate that you believe yourself to be a loyal conservative in your own way, your regular attacks on those who criticize this man, or any who disagree with deviation from conservative principles, are as misguided as those tossed around by liberals who did not brook any criticism of Bill Clinton simply because he was their standardbearer. I agree Gannon was basically stalked, and would have been attacked for ANY reason that the Rats could dig up, but that doesn't mean that the criticism here is automatically unwarranted, or that people who are Republicans should be barred from comment because you expect blanket approval of every Republican. Reasonable criticism within the GOP ranks is important to maintain party principles.
It is not an insult to the GOP or this man to say that today, it's not smart to post pictures of you in your undies on the web and then present yourself as a public figure without expecting your enemies to dig dirt. If they will find it, and you don't want it exposed, you're simply better off not being a public figure. You disagree with that, as well as the idea that anyone who would criticize Republicans could be remotely conservative--in both cases, regardless of ANY evidence contrary. I don't care to extend discussion with you, because you can't grasp that criticism of behavior or policy is not the same thing as criticism of the person.
Trust me .. there are many days that I hit that brick wall and need lots of sleep *l*
Found this article also ... He's a cocky little thing

Moulitsas, full of swagger, says that is why the new generation of political junkies are reading him, not watching "Crossfire.''
"I pretty much blow away the major media anyhow,'' he says. "I'm getting 800,000 visitors a day now. ("The Truth Laid Bear," a blog that tracks other blogs, places the figure at 627,535, and published reports have indicated Daily Kos scores 8 million visitors a month). This isn't a newspaper. They're all coming to read me. Not the sports page.''
And did I read correctly somewhere that Moulitsas isn't his real name?
I compared the photos of Mr. Gannon. I didn't think they were the same man. The head shapes are different.
I would appreciate it if you would post them.
