The conservative reporter who asked President Bush a loaded question at a news conference last month resigned yesterday after liberal bloggers uncovered his real name and raised questions about his background.
Jeff Gannon, who had been writing for the Web sites Talon News and GOPUSA, is actually James Dale Guckert, 47, and has been linked to online domain addresses with sexually provocative names. He has been under scrutiny since asking Bush how he could work with Senate Democratic leaders "who seem to have divorced themselves from reality." The information about Gannon was posted on the liberal sites Daily Kos, Atrios and World o' Crap.

Gannon's resignation highlights the no-holds-barred atmosphere of the Web, which both enabled him to function as a reporter--his stories appeared on a site founded by Texas Republican activist Bobby Eberle--and produced a swarm of critics determined to expose him.
Among the domain names registered by Gannon's company several years ago, but never launched, were Hotmilitarystud.com, Militaryescorts.com and Militaryescortsm4m.com, along with Exposejessejackson.com. The bloggers also have linked to a since-withdrawn America Online photo of a man who appears to be Gannon, posing in his underwear, with a screen name bearing the initials "JDG." Markos Moulitsas, a San Francisco liberal who writes the popular Kos site, said of Gannon: "He has been extremely anti-gay in his writings. He's been a shill for the Christian right. So there's a certain level of hypocrisy there that I thought was fair game and needed to be called out."

Several White House correspondents say they saw Gannon wearing what appeared to be a permanent White House pass with his picture and pseudonym--legal names are generally required because of the Secret Service background check--and that McClellan sometimes called on Gannon when he wanted a softer question.

The Washington ComPost .. Home to a lost cause but barking away anyway
Maybe we should dig deep into a few of these leftist reporters like Dana Milbank, David Gregory, and a few others in the leftist media

I wonder why Kurtz was so slow to mention this one...Hmmmmmm Seems he likes left wing blogs best...
Where is the video of this..Why is the MSM not demanding its release.
Still waiting for the Washington Post headline: "Dan Rather Resigns In Disgrace After Expose From Conservative Blogs"
Don't hold your breath :-)
Good thing they nailed him. The last thing this country needs is a reporter with a political agenda.
The Empire Strikes Back.
There is nothing surprising about the left using these tactics. It's all they know, and as usual they get by with a little help from their MSM allies who taught them everything they know about how to run an effective smear.
hey doug, what did you do with the autographed pic she sent you after that???????.........Hmmmmmmm
heavens NO.......LOL.......I've never heard of such a thing, aren't they all fair and balanced or something like that
Not that he's the first reporter to do so, but it really was pretty lame, even as a softball question.
I became physically ill.
It's fascinating how the MSM always manages to figure out what this Internet thingy is all about, when it comes to the art of the smearjob.
When it's one of theirs, MSM can barely explain the difference between blogs and forums, much less name them accurately.
Now that it helps their side, they've suddenly developed accuracy.
Yeah, where the world gets its news. They've finally tuned in to the MSM.
Sheesh
ROFLOL!
I suppose the lesson here is if you have something to hide, going in front of the public is the last place you should be. Mr. Gannon found out the hard way.
Not that we shouldn't do the same to the left, since they set the rule up, and they're much more likely to be cruising for homo one-night-stands anyway.
They just don't get it. They set up the rules, and the right can use them, too. And every time the right uses their rules and they try to ignore them, the left loses just a little more credibility. It's like calling people racist or sexist or homophobic. Crying wolf like that doesn't win friends...but it does influence people, who won't want you around them.
Why was Helen Thomas allowed to pose as a real reporter?
Government wanted to show the "ugliness" of news reporters.
