I guess I didn't have good sense at 13...THANK GOD YOU DID!!(and I mean that!)
Personally, I don't know how many women can identify with being able to defend themselves at age 13, especially in times gone by. Perhaps today, girls are receiving "fight back" training at an earlier age, but when I was growing up all the abuse was kept silent.
You probably think they should be of opposite sex too.

Growing up, there was nothing I didn't tell my mother, except that I learned how to open a pack of cigarettes (cost 15-cents), remove two and re-seal the cellophane. Otherwise, I never stole even a nickel from her.
Her parental wisdom, "Don't let people touch you in certain places." She also instilled in me a fear of getting "diseases."
God bless her soul! Raising me alone was not easy, for on occasion, I did rebel at authority. That could be what "saved" me - not good sense at all. :)
See #104. Yes, I too think abuse was kept more silent, except that I was a big blabbermouth. I know it was kept silent when my mother was young.

The crimes that were committed could have easily happened no matter what the marital status was and really have little if anything to do with this. Do you really think the child would have been safe if these two sociopaths had been married? All you've done by jumping on your judgemental soapbox is steer the discussion away from 1 very abused little girl who could very well use our prayers.

I think we have found the problem here...Lauralee is judging people for things she obviously has no clue about.
Lauralee...do you have children? Have you ever been subjected to the hell of trying to raise children on your own? Do you still live at home with your parents? Have you tried to live on your own with only one income? How about live on your own with one income and 2 or 3 mouths to feed?
Once again, WHAT TYPE OF PEOPLE HAVE LIVE IN BOYFRIENDS AND CHILDREN.
What type of person has a child and has a live in boyfriend for 7 years.
So basically if I 2 or 3 mouths to feed, I should go out and get a dirtbag boyfriend who will make my daughter squat in a dog cage. SORRY but no.
Basically I am saying this woman was not a good parent.
Basically, I don't really care about this woman. I doubt this was the first incident. She compromised her daughters welfare because she wanted to be with a dirtbag.
I care about the 13 year old. She is the victim here, lets not forget that.
What happened to this child is tragic! I agree with that...and that she is the true victim. But you are generalizing this whole mess.
Just because it happened here, doesn't mean it happens in all relationships. You are judging people (single parents) and trying to insist they live by your standards, or be judged by society! You don't have that right!
You have hurt several people by your judgemental comments. Too bad this is so close to our hearts where your insensitive comments are able to cause us pain.

I have compassion for the daughter NOT the mother.
Living with a man for 7 years and subjecting your child to a man as a father figure- A MAN who won't marry has problems with commitment and clearly doesn't love you. OR your child. If he loved you he would marry you.
