Minn. Sen. Dayton Will Not Seek a Second Term
The Washington Post ^ | 2\9\04 | Frederic J. Frommer

Minnesota Sen. Mark Dayton, a first-term Democrat atop the Republicans' 2006 target list, said Wednesday his party could field a stronger candidate and that he would not run for re-election.

"I do not believe that I am the best candidate to lead the party to victory next year," Dayton told reporters. "I cannot stand to do the constant fund raising necessary to wage a successful campaign, and I cannot be an effective senator while also being a nearly full-time candidate."

Not bad, not good. Dayton was a weak candidate, too bad we can't run against him

There is something really wrong here. Dayton is in worse mental condition than any of us realized. A demonrat politician doing something for the greater good?

Might be he realizes just how much chance he has of winning after his chicken-sh!t routine.

I don't think that he ever really hit his stride in Washington, and he isn't popular here in MN. He probably just wants out of the job and low poll numbers are his excuse.

it's only for the greater good of his party, not the US.
still fairly rare, I suppose.

Finally, a Dimwitrat that knows exactly where he stands.

This is rather scary. Dayton himself was our best hope of picking up a seat in MN. This wipes the slate clean for the Dems to put up a more winnable candidate. Crap.

Does the DFL have any serious candidates for Senate?

Just more evidence that this person is a nut case. . . he should be forced out of what remains of this term. Is sanity not a pre-req for a Senatorial job?

Al franken has talked about running for the senate, but he wanted to run against Norm Coleman.

Minnesota does have several good GOP possibilities for U. S. Senate. Rep. Mark Kennedy and Rep. Gil Gutknecht have both indicated an interest.

I agree with the above posters. The absence of Mark Dayton running may make it tougher to win the seat back, but never underestimate the stupidity of the left wing of the DFL in Minnesota! IF they run a flaming liberal who supports all the radical left positions, they may lose this again.
