They can dance around this issue all they want but the bottom line is that they are going to have to come to the final realization that until they secure the ports and borders, start enforcing the immigration laws ALREADY ON THE BOOKS and deporting ALL THE ILLEGAL ALIENS; there will never be a total victory in the "war on drugs", there will never be a total victory in the "war on terrorism" and there will definitely never be "homeland security!" PERIOD!

HOMELAND SECURITY....now, this is a department that really needs to be renamed!!!!!!!!!!! What we had HOPED and WISHED would happen post September 11, 2001 is now just a band-aid. The only homeland security I feel is my gun next to my bed!

You said..."start enforcing the immigration laws ALREADY ON THE BOOKS "
I agree wholeheartedly.
I and others have argued logically, that you cannot institute ANY guest worker bill if you have inadequate border security and enforcement. Out present border situation is woefully underfunded and undermanned. Without a system of enforcement, it is senseless to institute new laws.
Repost of mine from the other day, regarding a homicide hit and run illegal.
"Is this hit and run guy the type you would want as an employee?
NO
Does this person most likely have a job skill and a sponsor who would invite him into the country as a guest worker?
NO
Will this person and others like him come into this country even after a guest worker bill is passed, with the ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM AND SECURITY WE HAVE NOW?
YES"
