Are I Pods Liberal?
self

Posted on 02/09/2005 12:56:45 AM PST by davidtalker

Pardon the vanity but I believe this will make for an intriguing thread.

I have been following rather closely this I-Pod phenomenon with interest. There was a piece in USA Today last week where they compare the I-Pod users with cult members. One 20 something was quoted as saying "my I-Pod changed my life." IMHO, that means this individual was in serious need of a life.

Now follow me here. Libs complain about those of us in the "radical religious Right." However, it is my observation that the Left is just as religious as any Evangelical,Conservative Catholic or devout Jew. They just worship God's creations not God himself.

They have their own Churches. PETA,NOW,ACLU, Greenpeace,AIM, et al. They have clergy-Shrinks. They have condoms for Rosary beads... Follow. I think I-Pods are now part of their religion. Apple?

Notice I didn't say MP3 player. It has to be an I-Pod. Otherwise, it's like water and Holy Water. Won't work.

Now, I happen to believe MP3 players are definitely nifty gadgets. I am researching the purchase of one for myself. However, they are gadgets not lifechanging experiences. I have no doubt many freepers own I-Pods. I also have little doubt you are more than what is on you I-Pod.

You think that's bad -- I have a anarchist coffee maker. The coffee comes out either weak as an old lady's tea or so thick I need to cut it with a steak knife.

I dunno, my old Powermac runs linux just fine. And MacOS X is BSD based *nix with a lot of improvements. Considering the higher-level of advancement that the new crop of Mac's are bringing to the collective computer experience (video editing, for one) I would liken them more to progressives than WIN leftists. hehe ;)

The NYT did a story on the Che phenom. Interviewed 20 people wearing the shirts and none really knew who he was. They just liked the image...the thing is, the image isn't copyrighted -- just as the Smiley Face isn't copyrighted -- so anyone can make the shirts...

The article was right, I asked the Asian chick selling them how many she sold and than I asked her if she knew that Che was a terrorist. She looked at me funny and said, I didn't know that.

I once saw a carbonated beverage fountain machine that would only dispense Coca-Cola in a lime-free room, to deter the concoction of a "Cuba Libre."

Damnedest thing I ever saw.

The NYT reporter asked a bar owner of a place called Che if he knew who Che was and the guy said, "Yeah, he was a Mexican revolutionary, so he means revolution or something like that."

In one regard Warhol was right. Che is like the Campbell's soup can. An image repeated over and over again loses its meaning.

It's very, very simple. When you investigate MP3 players you will find nothing even come's close to an IPOD in terms of quality, ease of use, and capacity for it's size. It's called the marketplace. Make an excellent product and people will buy it. I use it at my desk to tune out the world while I work, I use it when traveling, and any other time I feel like listening to music without bothering other people. My entire collection of 400 CDs resides on my IPOD. Plus, it integrates perfectly with my MAC. Yeah, I love my ipod, but only because of what it gives me in return on investment.

Of course, there is also the whole corporate evil schtick with Bill Gates, etc.

There seem to be just as many "conservatives" with this attitude as "liberals".

But, I wonder which computer company would hire somebody like Al Gore?

They now have FM wireless connection for your car radio, it's the first time I have even come up with a use for a portable MP3 player.

iPods are a toy and a tool, period.

Now there are people here who will tell you that because they are made by Apple, only Libs buy them and use them.

SNORT.

LOTS of conservatives use Apple products.

Many of them post right here on FR.

( I know, I am a Mac user)

Besides, like Bill Gates isn't a Limosine Liberal.

Yes, but how many Mac user know emacs, awk or sed? Hell, I have one friend who didn't even know where to find the terminal program on his Mac. I'll take Linux over Macs and PCs anyday - at least for the work that I do.

Only the truly depraved make their PC choice a political one..

I use a Mac, and I am here to tell you there is no counter-culture revolution being spawned in the Mac community..

FM wireless connection for your car radio

I have one of those for my iPaq (see #16). I don't like wearing headphones in the car.

Ya know, there's nothing more pitiful than a plain girl looking for excuses to belittle the pretty girl.

A Real Question: Do you think it's the "hipness" of Apple products via design or perceived user base that's responsible for some people questioning their politics?

I'm tempted to buy one now with that feature, I just got Sirius radio, what a waste of money that was. It's great for truck drivers, I guess.

Did the advent of computers change your life? Would you want to live without one? Are computers liberal? Did the coming of television change your life? Are TVs liberal? Is Windows XP liberal? I kinda like having a microwave. Are microwaves liberal? I like my new car. Are cars liberal?

Note: Your question is silly.
