Kerry Just Can't Shake Senate-ese

In recent weeks, John Kerry has been conducting a public quasi-postmortem, granting media interviews in which he largely defends his performance on the presidential campaign trail. Of course--and I don't mean to be snide; I've always had a liking for this cerebral fellow who took on the CIA over the contra war--he has not identified any major mistakes committed by himself or the campaign. But to come across as credible, he has had to concede there were some errors. For instance, he acknowledges communications within the campaign sometimes were problematic. This led, according to Kerry, to the infamous episode in which he was quoted saying that he would still have voted to grant Bush the authority to wage war even after WMDs were not found. Kerry told The Boston Globe that he had been misquoted and that "when [this remark] got misinterpreted, I said [to an aide] I hadn't said that. And I told my campaign...they should go out and correct it." But his campaign did not, and the Bushies went to town.

But what about Kerry's own faults as a campaigner? In an interview with the Globe, he did recognize he had some issues, though he maintained he became a better politician over the course of the campaign: "I think I'm a better listener. I talk a different language. I got beaten up a lot over that, fairly. No complaints. You know, you've got to break out of Senate-ese and all that junk. By the end of the campaign, I really developed into a much better candidate than when I began."

No doubt, he did. Just not good enough to blast past George W. Bush. And it seems Kerry still has room for improvement. In an interview with political journalist Roger Simon, Kerry was asked if he is now the voice of the Democrats. He replied, "I don't claim singularity." I don't know if that's Senate-ese. But it sure ain't how they'd put it in the cheap seats at Fenway.

Gosh---nice call on your part--I had forgotten that and I don't think I have heard one dem say anything in their post-mortem columns or intvus mention that.

Just the fact that he DIDN'T give anymore press confrences could have been one of the reasons he lost---he never took a chance to counter the SBVTs, (not that he could, but he could have tried), or any of the other problems he had---

That made him look even more chicken than he already was!!!

So Kerry's finally admitting that his "thoughts" are not his own.

though he maintained he became a better politician over the course of the campaign:

Yes, I read he was an excellent finisher, simply excellent. I read that, in fact.

Ummm, Kerry had the ability to correct the "mistake" but didn't. Because he couldn't. He said it. It's on the record.

Kerry is VERY predictable. Always with the "someone else", "THEY got it wrong" & the infamous "I was MIS-quoted" bit. Same old song & dance.

Can't even decide wether to Sh*t or Get Off The Kamode.

Formerly known as a "queer duck" before it became politically incorrect to use the word "queer" and insult ducks.

David Corn is a most dislikeable person of the Left. He is smart enough to try to hide his frustration at Kerry's loss
and the absolute frustration he must feel at having to support Kerry at all. Where oh where is a good commie to go nowadays when all you have is that braying ass multi-millionaire. It is, after all, great irony that the only candidate the commies had was a billionaire and his ditsy wife. Oh for the days of Henry Wallace.

Monday night Brit ran a clip from the Letterman show of Kerry interviewing Kerry. It consisted entirely of snippets of Kerry asking a rhetorical question and immediately answering it (taken from one of the Sunday morning talk shows).

There is a lot to be said in favor of that format instead of the usual interview format: there was only one obnoxious liberal face to look at instead of two, and Kerry got tougher questions than he would have gotten from a regular interviewer.
