PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was so ill in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that a teammate had to call a play in the huddle, center Hank Fraley said.
"He fought to the end," Fraley told Comcast SportsNet on Monday. "He gave it his all. He was almost puking in the huddle. One play had to be called by (wideout) Freddie Mitchell because Donovan was mumbling because he was almost puking."
Offensive lineman Jon Runyan also echoed Fraley's comments in the same interview aired on two local radio stations on Tuesday after the Comcast report.
McNabb was shaky in Philadelphia's 24-21 loss to the England Patriots on Sunday, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns, was also getting picked off three times.
McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instances and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the NFL, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry and was sacked four times.
An Eagles spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday.
Oh, and Bill is a better coach than Lombardi. There I said it.
The only thing that counts in professional sports is winning. All the excuses in the world aren't going to put you in the record books. It's silly to try use hypotheticals, either you are a winner or you are a loser.
Yeah...McNabb was sick and Ashley Simpson had Acid Reflux.
Current Rams gloat. Even in their worst year in 5 years they made it to the second round. And thats without a defence or special teams. Not to rub salt any more, but will the 49er's ever be competetive again?
What about quarterbacks who've won and lost Super Bowls?
I root against McNabb because he's an Eagle. I felt the same way about Reggie White when he was an Eagle. If McNabb moved to a different team, I might root for him. I'm glad White got his ring. If McNabb moved to say, the Cowboys, I'd be rooting for him all the way.
My point is, there's a reason for a team doctor. And Head Coach. And the judgement and honesty of a player is crucial as well.
IF a QB is known to be handicapped to the deterrence of the team, everyone gambled on the same pot -- and lost.
"But as is the case with a concussion, the effects take a awhile to manifest themselves. What I saw was a guy who took a major shot to the head late in the second quarter, and who started to look lethargic in the 4th. Then you hear from other players that he's puking and mumbling. Those are classic signs of a concussion....Whether he actually suffered a concussion we may never know unless he was examined, but it is an explanation that fits all the available facts perfectly. "
May very well be...until the official word is in.
"What I honestly can't figure out is why this seems to be such an emotional topic for some people. Why does raising the possibility of a concussion bother you so much?"
Apparently folks on both side of the McNabb saga are a bit emotional whatever position they're taking, aren't they?
Though Roethlisberger exceeded ALL expectations, his performance was so-so, while his teammates on defense were just plain lousy.
IOW, there was enough blame to go around.
It's simple, you win or you lose. Nothing else matters. You can throw all kinds of excuses out there and it usully comes down to a play or two.
Yep. The defense couldn't make a tackle to save their lives in the 4th quarter. Otherwise Thurman Thomas would have been Super Bowl MVP that year. On the flip side, though, the Bills did have the lead in the 3rd quarter of their 4th Super Bowl. Thomas' fumble led to the Cowboys go-ahead score and gave Dallas all the momentum.
I met Joe in a bar outside of Denver (small place off Quebec Street near the old airport) the year after he retired. We played pool (partners) for 3 hours. He drank tequila straight from the bottle, and was smoking huge cigars. Nice guy. When I had to leave, he got a T-shirt from the bar and wrote on it 'To Don.. my pool buddy... Joe'.. one of my cherished possessions.
He played like a rookie in that first half. I think he's going to be a lot better in his next playoff start.
So Trent Dilfer is a better quarterback than Dan Marino?
Of course he is. Just like Rafael Santana was a better baseball player than Ted Williams. /sarcasm
Answer: One
Question: How many times did a Dolphins running back rush for 1,000 yards or more during Dan Marino's 17-year NFL career?
Answer: 10
Question: How many different defensive players were named to Pro Bowl rosters during Dan Marino's 17-year NFL career?
Compare this to teams like the 1985 Bears or the 1984 49ers (yes, they were a dominant defensive team even though they were known for their offense) -- which each sent five defensive players to the Pro Bowl in a single season.
Answer: One (linebacker John Offerdahl)
Question: How many defensive players were among the most dominant players at their positions for several years at a time during Dan Marino's 17-year NFL career?
These are not the kind of facts and figures that one would associate with a great team. In fact, a review of their offensive figures will show that their ground game for the most part was downright awful during those years. During Marino's career, their leading rushers included such mediocre no-names as Andra Franklin, Woody Bennett, Tony Nathan, Lorenzo Hampton (he led the team with an astonishing 414 yards rushing in 1988), Troy Stradford, Sammie Smith, Mark Higgs, Bernie Parmalie, Karim Abdul-Jabbar (the real star of this group -- he rushed for 1,116 yards in 1996), and J.J. Johnson. Most people who aren't long-time Dolphins fans probably don't even remember most of these names.
"Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko said that 'McNabb could have been feeling sick, he fought a cold earlier in the week.'"
I've played a lot of sports, have you ? I'd rather look like a chump for a whole season but have the best game of my life in the Super Bowl and win it. No one plays sports to come in second place, if you do, you're a loser.
Why does Anna Kournikova get more press than either of the Williams sisters? She's more marketable.
Yeah, I'm just one of millions of idiots and "racists" who saw the game, THEN the interview, THEN gave their impression and opinion.
Thanks for your ignorance and two-cents worth of hate.
