PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was so ill in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that a teammate had to call a play in the huddle, center Hank Fraley said.
"He fought to the end," Fraley told Comcast SportsNet on Monday. "He gave it his all. He was almost puking in the huddle. One play had to be called by (wideout) Freddie Mitchell because Donovan was mumbling because he was almost puking."
Offensive lineman Jon Runyan also echoed Fraley's comments in the same interview aired on two local radio stations on Tuesday after the Comcast report.
McNabb was shaky in Philadelphia's 24-21 loss to the England Patriots on Sunday, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns, was also getting picked off three times.
McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instances and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the NFL, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry and was sacked four times.
An Eagles spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday.
OK, so they meant 1/2 of the QB that ever played are better than McNabb? That's just as ignorant. 1/2 of the QB who ever played haven't led their team to four straight playoff semi-finals. The Eagles have won 59 regular-season games in 5 years. Oh, but McNabb is average. What nonsense.
I was being tongue-in-cheek about that (the Belichick Trophy), but with some people saying he's now the greatest coach in NFL history, I'm sure someone will bring it up sooner or later.
Actually Doug William returned to Washington after Super Bowl XXII (where he helped the team score 35 points in one quarter). Williams was a Redskin for two more years (88 and 89). Williams started in 88 but injuries plagued him and the Redskins missed the playoffs. In 1989 Mark Rypien took over the quarterback spot. Rypien went on to win Super Bowl XXVI in the bandwagon year of 1991 (actually Super Bowl XXVI was in 1992 but I digress)
Yeah just an average qb that almost every team in the league would love to have as its starter.
Since you clearly don't know the meaning of the term "average" let me give you a hint. Look at those who have been qbs for the Chicago Bears for the last twenty years.
During the AFC Championship game, the Pat's Brady had the flu and a temp. of 103 degrees. You get the big bucks, you play....sick or not. Afterwards, I watched an interview with Brady and thought, hmmm, he sounds really congested. The next day it was reported in The Boston Globe sports section...as I read it while putting it on the floor for my minidoxies to use as wee wee pads....that indeed, Brady had played sick. Interesting that both quarterbacks had to deal with illness.
Even worse!
They are both, actually. Did a quick geneology.com search on the names using "Ireland" and "Scotland" and found about 4 times as many returns for "Scotland" on the McNabb family gen. forum, and more than 3 times as much for same on the McNair family forum. Unscientific, or perhaps indicative of more searching for vaguer Scottish roots? But definitely some McNabbs and McNair came from and had estates in Scotland.
Scotch-Irish? Scotch on the rocks?
Ah, you beat me to it!
The Patriots are a hell of a football team, and deserved the win. The McNabb-haters would have you believe that the Patriots would easily have lost if some slightly better-than-average QB was in instead of McNabb. These confused people forget that McNabb did far, far better than Peyton Manning. Then again, some probably think Manning stinks too because he never won anything.
Has there been definitive word that McNabb had a bad concussion? IF McNabb was that disabled, via flu or concussion, or whatever, he's gotta come out, then the team's got to suck it up.
Seemed to me since the first quarter McNabb was sloppy with his throws. He never got into a groove.
Who knows the truth of the matter?
Based upon observation, his performance was mediocre -- just as injured Steeler QB Roethlisberger was two weeks ago -- only the Rook made NO excuses.
It seemed like he was only able to make plays when the Patriots blitzed and his offensive line was able to pick it up. If that didn't happen he was lost.
Agreed, and YesNo, I am an (not) Eagles fan, but Rush is a rube, racist agitator and there appears to be a rich vein for him here.
He's been through a lot the past few weeks. He is as tough as they come.
Some players have it in them to win no matter what, others make excuses.
Neither has McNabb. It's his teammates that have brought this up, not McNabb. On second thought, didn't Roethlisberger say something about breaking a few of his toes in the first half of the New England game?
You could throw 31 TDs if you had the protection? Been hitting the Playstation really hard, eh?
Also, tell me the names of all of the QBs who have come out of college and been successful in the NFL at other positions. I'll bet you can't name ten in the past 30 years.
The Eagles have to have get McNabb a running game if they want to win a Super Bowl.
McNabb outplayed Manning.
McNabb outplayed Rothlesberger.
McNabb outplayed Favre.
McNabb outplayed Culpepper.
McNabb outplayed Vick.
McNabb did not outplay Brady.
OK.
So that makes him awful?
