PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was so ill in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that a teammate had to call a play in the huddle, center Hank Fraley said.
"He fought to the end," Fraley told Comcast SportsNet on Monday. "He gave it his all. He was almost puking in the huddle. One play had to be called by (wideout) Freddie Mitchell because Donovan was mumbling because he was almost puking."
Offensive lineman Jon Runyan also echoed Fraley's comments in the same interview aired on two local radio stations on Tuesday after the Comcast report.
McNabb was shaky in Philadelphia's 24-21 loss to the England Patriots on Sunday, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns, was also getting picked off three times.
McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instances and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the NFL, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry and was sacked four times.
An Eagles spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday.
I think a New York sports radio host summed it up perfectly: "That was the worst 350-yard game I've ever seen from a quarterback."
Correct. I had a concussion once and I thought I was losing my guts. It was worse than any virus I ever had.
Your opinion matters to me about as much as a pimple on my A**.
You obviously don't know how to take a hint.
A note about that three point margin. Vinateri has kicked the game-winning field goal in all three Patriot Superbowl wins. He just kicked this one a little earlier than usual.
Bing! Bing! Bing! We have a winner!
It took 118 posts before Paine in the neck tied what we saw happening in the game to what happened to McNabb.
People say Reid got outcoached by Belichek and McNabb was outplayed by Brady. What really happened was the Pats' training outstaff outdid the Eagles.
We were told during the game that Pinkston, Kearse and Tra Thomas all cramped up. When I heard that I immediately guessed more Eagles were probably cramping in the heat and humidity.
Across the field, Deion Branch caught a pass along the sideline and as he started to return to the huddle, someone on the sideline pulled him off the field and squirted half a bottle of water into his mouth.
I doubt the Eagles got into that situation by drinking too much alcohol. Too professional a group for that.
And, folks, please, can we stop with this black quarterback stuff, even if others won't. We're all Americans. We're on the same side.
I don't recall McNabb asking for Rush's opinion. I've never heard the guy say negative word about anybody, even the Philly Fans who booed him on draft day.
He could have piped up when Rush got sent to rehab over his pathetic drug habit that embarrassed all Conservatives who talk up his show. Didn't hear him then either.
Those are Irish names.
Bingo. Glad somebody said it.
Sadaam was a Nazi...just a "Pan-Arab" one.
And don't forget Schilling's act of courage.
Thanks! I stand corrected. The media made such a big deal about him (Black quarterback/super bowl), despite the fact that Doug Williams was the first (and won, and was MVP), that I had forgotten about McNair.
Rush never criticized McNabb. His comments were directed at the media who Rush said were over hyping McNabb because they wanted a black quarterback to succeed. Rush never said McNabb was a poor quarterback but at the time there were black QB's who were as good or better and yet the media didn't talk much about them.
I don't particularly follow Doug Williams' career and afterward or any other athlete for that matter. The thing about Tampa Bay occurred during the summertime of 2004 and was all over the sports news outlets.
Jeez - Some Dynasty! Those Pats were just lucky!
First they played in the AFC Championship Game against a QB with a bad thumb (if the glove don't fit...) and "broken toes" --- now it turns out that Donovan had the pukes!
