Eason's Fables-- the sordid Jordan Story

A CNN Executive Says G.I.s in Iraq Target Journalists -- Eason Jordan, ignited an Internet firestorm last week when he told a panel at a World Economic Forum gathering in Davos, Switzerland, that the American military had targeted journalists during operations in Iraq.

About faces -- When challenged, Mr. Jordan could provide no evidence to support the charge, and subsequently lied about having made it, though the record shows he had made a similar charge a few months before, and also earlier had falsely accused the Israeli military of targeting journalists.

CNN's Jordan Resigns Over Iraq Remarks

For reference to this remark by Howie Kurtz:

Even as he said he had misspoken at an international conference in suggesting that coalition troops had "targeted" a dozen journalists and insisted he never believed that, Jordan was being pounded hourly by bloggers, liberals as well as conservatives, who provided the rocket fuel for a story that otherwise might have fizzled.

Power of the BlogoSphere:
Serfing the Web --I missed it when it was broadcast, but Trey Jackson has video of Jeff Jarvis’ appearance on CNN’s Reliable Sources with Washington Post journalist Howard Kurtz: Jeff Jarvis - ‘The Story is not over’. It’s edited to show only the sections with Jeff and he makes very good points, especially in his answer to the absurd “Blogs=McCarthyism” charge, raised by Kurtz. Here’s Jeff’s post at buzzmachine about the show: Serfs at the news cathedral’s gates.
Now that everyone has access to a press -- the internet -- anyone you talk to could be a Wolf Blitzer in sheep's clothing.
Welcome to the age of transparency.

Actually, I like your play on words, but fables always have morals to their stories. Maybe you should change it to Eason's Foibles.

It seems as if there are larger players hiding in this story. Jordan's fall was "rather" quick, relative to some others. What accounts for this speed? I can think of two possible sources: first, that CNN is concerned for the safety of its own journalists in the field, and in particular, for how U.S. troops would respond if a CNN field reporter found himself or herself in deep water and was able to communicate that he or she needed quick extraction. Second, it seems possible that there was some quasi-official pressure from the Pentagon or the White House for CNN to clean up its act, fast, or else CNN journalists would be barred from any more field reporting effective immediately.

Based on immediate past observation of the MSM, I would guess that the second possibility is more likely. The first possibility would make more sense, but I haven't seen much demonstration of common sense recently from the MSM.

REALNEWS.COM (Michelle Malkin Alert) -- The resignation of CNN executive Eason Jordan last Friday night caused near-fainting spells in the journalism world. And now the backlash against the blogosphere — the legions of Internet citizen journalists who pressured Jordan to come clean about controversial remarks he made at a World Economic Forum panel in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 27 — has begun.
