Detectives identify 11 new victims of alleged child rapists

The Denham Springs couple accused last week of luring children into sexual encounters were booked with numerous new capital counts involving 11 additional victims on Monday. "They were sexual predators -- serial-type rapists going after these kids, children from the neighborhood or children they knew," and in some cases their own relatives, Livingston Parish Sheriff's detectives' supervisor Stan Carpenter said.

David Constance, 39, who was first arrested last week on allegations he performed a sex act on a 7-year-old boy, now faces seven additional child rape counts involving six additional victims. He also was booked with one count of aggravated incest, two counts of molestation of a juvenile and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

His wife, Christina Constance, 29, faces five additional counts of child rape involving five victims, along with two counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile and one count of aggravated incest, Carpenter said.

She also was arrested last week and initially booked with performing a sex act with a 10-year-old girl.

The 13 victims identified so far ranged in age from 4 to 16 at the time the crimes -- which date back to 2001 -- were allegedly committed, Carpenter said.

"We're expecting more charges to come out of this. This isn't the final tally," Carpenter said.

All of the child rape counts, upon conviction, would carry potential penalties as severe as death by lethal injection. The incest counts would carry up to 20 years upon conviction.

The Constances were in the Livingston Parish jail Monday on their initial $500,000 bond, which was expected to rise into the millions of dollars with the new counts, Carpenter said.

The public defender's office for the 21st Judicial District has been asked to handle the case for at least a bond reduction hearing slated for Feb. 10, but there has yet to be a defense attorney assigned who could speak on the Constances' behalf about the case.

Carpenter described a couple that routinely changed addresses in search of new children, but stayed mostly in rural areas of the parish. He added that there very well could be victims in other parishes.

"They've moved around four to five times since 2003," Carpenter said. "It looks like they might have been moving into new neighborhoods with the express purpose of soliciting children for sex. We're not sure about that, but it certainly seems that way from the information we're receiving."

It will be up to the district attorney to decide whether to pursue the death penalty. Carpenter said the sheriff's office is not yet ready to pass the case on to prosecutors for review because the investigation is ongoing.

That may happen after he gets in prison. Or he will wish that's where they were sewed.

Wait a minute. Haven't we heard of these sorts of wild charges before only to find out later the cops were programing the kids how to testify?

Didn't Janet Butch Reno get famous doing this crap?
