Ugh, I couldn't disagree more. Cate Blanchett's acting was totally forced and overdone. We (my husband and I) hated that part of the movie more than anything, even Leo's miscasting and all the good parts of the story that went by the way side. It was an OK movie, but we could have waited for the DVD.

Sorry, but I just don't agree with you. I think that Blanchett overdoes it a little during her first few scenes, stressing Hepburn's movie persona a little too much during the scenes at the golf course and party, but that eventually Blanchett slides more comfortably into her character. In later scenes, starting with the romantic bit inside Hughes's plane, Cate's Kate deepens in complexity and becomes more human; Cate even tones the accent down to a more subtle, convincing tone that matches her mannerisms and facial reactions more completely. And the kicker is that I think the earlier overacting was intentional, Cate's way of stressing the movie's stated theory that Hepburn would "perform" too much around Hughes and other pre-Spencer beaus as a means of keeping them at arms length from her true self.
