Media Advisory | Feb. 4, 2005 UBC to Fly Rainbow Flag in Support of LGBQTTI Students, Faculty and Staff Event: Rainbow flag raising ceremony Place: Plaza between Brock Hall and the Student Union Building, UBC
Date/Time: Monday, Feb. 7 at noon
Parking: North Parkade, on the north side of the Student Union Building and across from the Student Recreation Centre, enter through Gate 3 on Chancellor Boulevard
UBC will raise the rainbow flag in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transexual queer, two-spirit and intersex (LGBQTTI) students, faculty and staff.
The rainbow flag, adopted by the LGBQTTI community as a symbol of diversity and pride, will be raised at a ceremony hosted by Brian Sullivan, Vice President, Students, and representatives of Pride UBC, an LGBT student group.
The flag is part of OutWeek, Pride UBCs 25th annual celebration to raise awareness of LGBT issues.
Only one other Canadian university has flown the rainbow flag and the City of Vancouver began flying the flag over city hall only last year.
The flag will fly through Feb. 12 on a new flagpole on the plaza between the Student Union Building and Brock Hall, home to UBCs Student Welcome Centre. A university flag will fly the rest of the year.
Flying the rainbow flag is a significant demonstration of the Universitys acknowledgement and support for these communities, says OmiSoore Dryden, diversity advisor in sexual orientation and gender identities.
The office is the first in a Canadian university to commit to integrated practices in bringing about positive social change and creating a welcoming environment at the university, says Janet Mee, director of the UBC Access and Diversity Office.
Were please that the university administration has chosen to visibly support LGBQTTI students for the 25th anniversary of OutWeek, says Pride UBCs OutWeek co-ordinator Sadie Pile. We look forward to a continued collaboration with the University in years to come.

I thought it was a native thang...LGBQTTI = Let's Give Back Quebec To The Indians :)
LOL!!
There was a Polish group dedicated to the rights of those who like cigarettes and cigars. But their name...the "Pole Smokers"...led to some confusion. :^)

That would look cool on a flag.
The writer must have been too tired to type the other letters.
Is that rubber I smell burning? LOL
>>>lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transexual queer, two-spirit and intersex
Wow, is that ever a mouthful!!!
Why not add fifty other mental disorders that are on the books? Sheesh!
It's not a flag. It's a freakin' logo! Down the street, Pillsbury flies their company flag. This whole GLBTABCWHATEVER flag thing has got to go.
If they want their own flag in the U.S., let them take over Massachussetts (it's already ruined, anyway), declare their independence, and continue on their own with no federal assistance whatsoever, and they can build a fence, turn the place into a nudist colony, and die off in their unmade bed of uncontrollability. Everybody in their "country" will die from AIDs in no time.
I feel sorry for them because they're obviously mentally imbalanced, but a flag? IT'S A LOGO, NOT A FLAG.
I have it on a coffee mug...
That guy forget the Crazy Glue on his fingers?
More like just perverted.
I need a barf bag! (Don't want to mess up my workstation!)
2-spirit I thought referred to demon critters along for the ride:
"I know I got demons hangin' on me but I like it"
