Fire Truck Missing Red Faces Over Fire Crew's Emergency Pizza Run
49 minutes ago Oddly Enough - Reuters
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Embarrassed emergency officials are investigating reports a Sydney fire station was unable to respond to an alarm because a fireman had taken the station's only fire truck to pick up a pizza and give some friends a joyride.
Fire officials said Monday there had been no risk to the public even though the fire station in the beachside suburb of Maroubra had been unable to respond to a call three weeks ago because the truck was missing.
But they confirmed they were investigating media reports that the fireman on duty had gone to pick up a pizza and then took some friends for a spin in his shiny red truck.
"This is extremely rare," said New South Wales Fire Brigade assistant commissioner John Benson. "I would say that this incident is unheard of in the New South Wales Fire Brigade in regards to utilizing fire appliances in an inappropriate manner and ... it's being thoroughly investigated," he told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.
A fire engine from a neighboring station had already responded to the emergency call, described as a fire door alarm, before the Maroubra truck's absence was noted, Benson said.
pizza pong
Don't the pizza places in Australia deliver?
Look, if you don't get an answer at the Police Station, you call Dunkin' Donuts.
If you don't get a response at the Fire Station you call Pizza Hut.
It's common knowledge.
Well, at least it wasn't a beer run!
When I was a rookie firefighter, I had a recurring nightmare that I'd taken the fire truck somewhere, and come back to the station to find all the crew staring at me because they'd missed a fire. Upon talking to other firefighters, I found that quite a few had the same or a similar dream about missing runs. It's hard to believe someone was stupid enough to actually do it.
There's news story going on locally (Tampa, FL) about some stripper at a fire station here and nude photos.... Can anyone post pictures of the pizza these guys ordered?
LOL
Don't they have two-way radios in this place??
" the fireman on duty had gone to pick up a pizza and then took some friends for a spin in his shiny red truck."
How old was this guy? 6 ?
I actually had a similar experience happen to me at a
Nursing/retirement home fire. I got out of my vehicle and started across the parking lot. I'd fogotten to pull up my suspenders so my bunker pants fell down to my knees.
I had to remove the SCBA, and turnout coat, pull up the bunker pants and put everything back on. When I finally was ready my partner pointed to the other building of the complex where 20 or so mostly old ladies at the windows were watching and clapping.
I did catch a flack about it at the staion for the next year or two. Lucky for me the news media wasn't there yet.
