Lucky for the GOP, the Democrats are doing all the wrong things.
Self-proclaimed Groucho expert and fanatic here: One of my favorite lines from that song is, "For months before my son was born, I used to shout from night to morn, whatever it is, I'm against it!"
Sorry, I digress. Continue.
"Despite the propaganda machine of the Democrats that systematically opposes everything that President Bush promotes, my belief is that the GOP and its allies will succeed at properly educating Americans about Social Security's difficulties, and get them on board for the sweeping reforms that will be required."
I agree wholeheartedly. This is a winning issue for the president and more importantly, our children.
Hello, I must be going,
I came to say I cannot stay,
I must be going
I'm glad I came but just the same,
I must be going...
Who on earth would even know those songs?
Were you addicted to TV as a kid?
Well we Republicans are indeed, for the good of the country trying to point out what these folks need to do to remain viable. This may or may not be "good" in the long run. I suspect the natural disappearance of the Dems with an eventual fracture of the Pubbies into two parties may well happen.
I would venture to say that most of us boomers and older generations would be familiar with those songs. The addiction wasn't tv so much as the Marx Brothers movies!
> Were you addicted to TV as a kid?
They are great movies that are available on VHS and DVD and are probably at your local library. Lyrics are available on the Internet.
Addicted to TV - pffft.
AHHHHH! Horse Feathers. That is my favorite by the Marx Brothers. One corny line after another. Hard to pick my favorite line from the film, but the bit of dialogue involving Groucho's plan to pull down the college dorms in order to build a new stadium always comes to me: "But Professor, where will the students sleep?" "Where they always sleep: in the classrooms."
Swordfish...
Your proposition may be good
But let's have one thing understood
Whatever it is,
I'm against it!
And even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it!
"Were you addicted to TV as a kid?"
How about this:
Groucho said: "I once shot an elephant in my pajamas, I don't know how he got in them"
Iraq may have democracy
We've got a good economy
If Bush is the prez,
I'm against it!
If Cheney recommended or dispensed it,
I'm against it!
- Ted Kennedy
Yea I guess every campaign should start with the cantidate being a phony! Of course with this one it started years ago.
Groucho on the Dem Party:
"Youre headed for a breakdown, youve got to pull yourself to pieces!"
I find television very educational. Every time someone turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.
