IIRC AB had a very moving ad in the Superbowl that followed 9/11 I recall the Clydesdales going into NYC and bowing their heads. Over the many Super Bowls AB has had some of the best ads bar none. This one joins a long tradition.

I remember that ad with the Clydesdales looking across a river at NYC and bowing their heads. I loved it, but I think it only aired once. IIRC there was some controversy over that commercial...?

That was ok the first time.....but it played too many times for my liking.
Personally, I thought the best commercial of the whole night was the utterly hilarious spot (I think it was for FedEx or something) that counted down the 10 cliches most often used in commercials. The spot was an absurd delight all around, featuring a waxen but game Burt Reynolds as the obligatory celebrity cameo, a talking (!) bear that kicks him in the groin, beautiful cheerleaders, a hit pop song ("don't stop believing" by Journey) and the bonus ending ("I loved you in Smokey and the Bandit").
I saw it. It was great.

Amen to that (or HOO-AH if you prefer). I think that the commercial was meant to honor ALL troops serving the U.S. right now, not JUST those in Iraq and Afghanistan, and even many of those soldiers are women. Did you know that well over 40% of all new U.S. Army recruits are women?
I dont think the gender split is that unusual for supply units and so forth. Most of the National Guard units locally that have been activated seem to have a relatively high percentage of women. Women serve too. Why not just sit back and enjoy the tribute rather than looking for something to be upset about. You will live longer or at least be happier.
And to think .. they went to college to learn that

Yup, the new commercial and the Longest Yard (a remake of a Reynolds film, with Adam Sandler now the star) is probably the closest thing to a career revival ole' Burt's experienced since his (very good) Oscar-nominated comeback performance in Boogie Nights, though the '70's oddest Box Office attraction still hasn't ever gotten a role as good as the tough, resourceful businessman he played in Deliverance during his heyday. That is, unless you count the great Saturday Night Live sketch with Norm MacDonald as Burt...or "Turd Fergusen".
Far and away, the best commercial of the evening.
Yes, that's exactly how we viewed the commercial. One that honored our military. Plain and simple.
No, didn't know that percentage but...glad they are stepping up to the plate and obviously, they want to or wouldn't do it since it is an all volunteer force.
