Preparatory meeting ahead of Sharm el-Sheikh Summit

6 Feb 2005

(Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser)

The preparatory meeting ahead of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s meeting with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmud Abbas on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Sharm el-Sheikh, was held on Saturday evening (Febraury 5). Dov Weisglass, Amos Gilad, Shalom Turgeman and Asaf Shariv attended for the Israeli side. Saeb Erekat, Hassan Abu Libdeh and Muhammad Dahlan attended for the Palestinian side.

The meeting, which was good, dealt with the preparations for Tuesday’s meeting; considerable progress was achieved. On the security prisoners issue, it was agreed that a joint committee to examine the issue would be established after Tuesday’s meeting. The final meeting to coordinate procedures for Tuesday’s event will be held tomorrow (Monday), February 7, 2005.

Isn't it nice to know we can have a "good" meeting with the Palestinians so long as we restrict the subject to having another meeting?
