Xer Ping

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effects Generation Reagan / Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations (i.e. The Baby Boomers) are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

Is this fellow under the impression President Bush can issue a decree and change the Social Security structure with a stroke of the pen?

Instead of taking the President to task, why doesn't he join in the effort to make the changes he desires?

15% of your payroll goes to Social Security. 15% PERCENT!!! If you want a retirement you pay for it AFTER.

It's the Democrats in congress that perpetuate this Ponzi scheme and call it a "safety net."

"Excuse me, Mr. President. But if it really is "our money," why is Social Security still mandatory?

And why will there still be so many rules about what our young folk can do with the money they stash in their personal accounts?"

First of your complaints, Social Security was mandatory to protect ignorant Americans from having nothing when they retire. Please understand the ignorant as being unable to understand their position when they reach retirement age. Without it most Americans would have to rely on their sons and daughters to live.

Second, you got that all wrong? When did he said what you have to spend your private account money on. I understand, like 401k or IRAs you can elect to withdraw and spend as needed. The only thing I missed is if what you withdraw it has to be taxed like 401k or IRAs.

I've been living on SS and and IRA for about 18 years now and boy do I live comfortable. Even my kids borrow from me. If I am wrong on this please someone correct me.

I figured out many years ago that I would never see a dime of my SS taxes.

I have a small IRA. It's what I can afford. I have much more faith in that than SS.

It kills me th hear the politicians say that the SS money is still there, that they "borrowed" it and replaced it with "gauranteed" goverment bonds.

Okay, so if I go rob a bank and leave an IOU, won't I go to jail?

Damned lying politicians!

And I LOVE the phrase "Full faith and credit of the American Goverment"

Bull! It can go belly up too.

Every true conservative believes SS should be voluntary.

I am vehemently opposed to forced socialist security and would gladly give all of my money contributed the last 36+ years to be able to opt out now, yet I applaud President Bush and his administration for taking on this issue.

Outstanding President. Outstanding Vice-President. Outstanding Administration.
