After zillions of bad quarterbacks in Chicago, the first competent one was canonized.
Despite being a New Yorker, there is NOBODY that has even come close to the great Joe Montana in my lifetime.
If Hasselbeck had receivers that could catch the ball, he would go from good to great in a flash.
Namath was an excellent passer. I wouldn't say he was overrated (although his career was rather short compared to Montana or Marino). He was definately the COOLEST guy ever to play QB.
MEAN MACHINE! MEAN MACHINE!
I agree, Montanna was/is overrated. When one of your career highlights is a long drive against the Bengals, it makes a guy wonder. I haven't been following too closely, how many of those Bengals on the D side are in the Hall of Fame right now? Why was he behind the Bengals in the first place? I think he was a great QB. But still over-rated.
Dick Butkus has one of those "get tough or die" names.
"Seems like Rush should have been a little more cautious considering how much he loved that job, but I guess its water under the bridge now."
I agree 100%.
Damn right. Grew up in Chicago. Played football at Illinois and for the Bears. Once said that his fondest desire was to hit a running back so hard that his head came off.
At the time made the comment, McNabb was overrated. Limbaugh said that McNabb was a better than average quarterback but wasn't even up there stats wise with the like of current active black qbs Daunte Cullpepper amd Steve Mcnair. He basically said the nfl and the nfl media overhyped him because they wanted a black to succeed so badly at qb. Rush didnt say Mcnabb sucked but he did say that Mcnabb did not compare to Cullpepper and Mcnair. Not racist at all. Just character assassination againt Rush. At the time Mcnabbs stats were not as good as great black quarterbacks. things have changed in the last 2 years. Mcnabb should thank Limbaugh for lighting a fire underneath his ass.
Trent Dilfer WON the Super Bowl, and he is well below average. Teams that make the Super Bowl in the salary cap era may or may not have a great quarterback. The best quarterbacks were all sitting home during the Super Bowl this year, last year, and many of the last few years.
In the past era, pre-cap, the Top QBs got their teams to the championship. Now it's competant QBs, and good teams led by GREAT coaches that get to the big game.
Kurt Warner was never overrated. He is second only to Steve young in passer rating. He led his team to 2 superbowls, winning one of them. Kurt Warner is HOF bound. Utter stupidity to say Warner is overrated.
You've got to be kidding. If he is HOF bound, why can't he find a starting job in this league? St. Louis dumped him for Bulger and the Giants just dumped him this year for Eli Manning. Sorry but two or three great seasons, a hall of fame career does not make. I'm not even saying Tom Brady is a shoo-in at this point even though he's won three of the past four Super Bowls. Once a player performs at Pro Bowl level for 10 years, then we can start talking Hall of Fame. Otherwise it's premature.
injuries and new players coming up in the ranks and the fickleness of the coaches concering some players. Some quarterbacks get to play no matter how bad they do throungh the years and other great quarterbacks are dumped at the first bad game or two. Warner had good numbers with the giants last year. 7.42 yds/attmpt is not bad. 62.8% completion rate is pretty good. His few mediocre years have to put in context. The concussion or two have thrown off his game a little and the lack of confidence of the coaches have too. I admit Warner had an uphill battle for the hall, but if he gets the right coach to believe in him and is willing to give him 15 or 16 games a season, then he is going to the HOF.
