Americans, Iraqis: 2; Democrats, Terrorists: 0 MichNews.com Feb 3, 2005

At some point Democrats are going to figure out why they keep losing elections. As if the November elections weren’t bad enough, the Iraqi people came out in droves to cast a stunning vote for freedom and democracy in a nation known only for tyranny and misery.

Luckily, Iraqi voters can manage to cast ballots under real threats of intimidation. This is to say, these voters marched to the voting polls despite the possibility of being murdered or captured for torture. Meanwhile, Democrats all across America allegedly run from the voting booths when suspected Republicans cast odd glances in their direction.

The left’s foremost expert on foreign policy, Jimmy Carter (see: Iran hostage crisis, solving North Korea’s nuclear problem, etc.), said in September that he “did not believe they're going to be ready for the election in January ... because there's no security there." Most people would be more right more often on foreign policy by enlisting the services of a Magic 8 Ball.

John Kerry, the candidate without a foreign policy (oh, but that hair!), genially informed us that Americans are more vulnerable to attacks now then before invading Iraq. Inasmuch as the Bush administration has successfully rounded up terrorists across America and there have been no attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11, much-less since invading Iraq some two years ago, I can only assume John Kerry knows something no one else does. If he doesn’t tell us what he knows, when he knew it, or how he got the information we are going to send Republican poll watchers to glare in his direction until he frightfully gives in. That ought to do it.

One Iraqi policeman was so dedicated to his country and to the spread of democracy that he lunged at a militant suicide bomber, pushed him back fifty feet into the streets and allowed his life to be taken so that dozens others, who were waiting in line to vote, could live. The people, undaunted that a fanatical extremist just tried to kill them, continued to wait in line to cast their ballots. But these are a people not ready for democracy and not desiring freedom, as liberals claim?

What the Iraqi people have been through to get to this point is a true story of inspiration. They persevered over a ruthless tyrant who slaughtered and tortured millions of his people. They have dealt with a surge of foreign terrorists intent on stopping any peaceful transition to a democratic Iraq. But when the time came to step up to the plate, they did. This was their true Independence Day.

This is proof enough to me that democracy in Iraq will be a success, and that the greatest long-term enemy the Islamic Fascists face is the Iraqi people, not the American military. Had the true threats of intimidation prevailed over the desire of the people to succeed, I would not have been so sure.

The Democrats who criticized the war at every stage and on every front are now downplaying the Iraqi elections. They call the election a sham, unfair to Sunni’s, and not really that important. They are about to be on the wrong side of history… again. Liberals need to stop seeing a possible failure in Iraq as a tool to their regaining power, and see that success in Iraq is good for all people. Even the mainstream media seemed to get it right for once. When the New York Times stops backing liberal asininities, it’s time to fold.

I could let the Iraqis speak for themselves: "I cannot describe what I am seeing. It is incredible. This is a vote for the future, for the children, for the rule of law, for humanity, for love"... "Thanks be to God"... "I am not afraid. This is like a festival for all Iraqis"... "This is a wedding for all Iraqis. I congratulate all Iraqis on their newfound freedom and democracy"... "I would have crawled here if I had to. I don't want terrorists to kill other Iraqis like they tried to kill me. Today I am voting for peace"...

But then, I wouldn't want to "over-hype" anything.

Once again our country is at war, and once again the Democrats have sided with the enemy.

once again the Democrats have sided with the enemy.

At this point they've surpassed merely "siding" with the enemy and have moved on to being the enemy. ......with a few notable exceptions (Zell, Lieberman, etc.)
