This is an example of why you should be able to sue the police officers themselves, and not just a department. Perhaps they would check things out a little closer, and be a bit more cautious about ruining someones life if they were looking at personally losing everything they own if wrong. Doctors get the hell sued out of them for malpractice don't they? Why not cops?

Perfect precedent to shatter the notion, "why would SHE lie?"

"Tall girl, blonde hair, blue eyes, pretty girl," Brooks recalled of his first impression of the Norweigian-born clinical social worker. Of course... I bet psycho-bitch is a bigtime DemonRat.

Cops do get sued - but the cities usually indemnify them.

PD departments do get sued, but I get the drift. One reason malpractice for cops isn't a concept is because it's public. While doctors (for now) are private. Hospitals do get the brunt of any malpractice suits against a practitioner too.

I'd sue the police for false arrest, for abuse of authority under color and for not following proper procedure. I wouldn't want the money to compensate me because nothing the government could do could give me back lost hours of my life, my job or my reputation but at least I would have peace of mind knowing they could never do the same thing to another innocent guy ever again.

Certainly, in any sane or rational society the penalties for false accusations would mirror precisely those meted out for the real deal.
To: ambrose
In that case, it's the taxpayers paying the lawsuit.

Will the cops ever be punished for not doing their job and for putting an innocent man through all this rubbish?

but Trason Brooks suspects another cause: "She wanted me in prison the rest of my life ... In her mind we're getting married, we're having kids, we're going to be happily ever after. I made it clear to her that's not what my intentions were."
**What a weird thing to say about marriage but typical of guys his age. I'll bet he doesn't catch the vapors over a pretty face again. Some people are alone for a reason, especially if they're as pretty as she is.
