Latest Poll: Labour remains in the lead

The Labour Party is still Norway's largest political party, despite a 1.5 point drop in voters' support in TNS Gallup's poll for January, made for VG and TV2.

The poll shows a gain for the Prime Minister's Christian People's Party by 1.5 point to 7 per cent. Coalition partner, the Conservative Party, is up 1 point to 19 per cent, and the right wing Progress Party is also one up to 20 per cent.

TNS Gallup's results for January:

Labour Party 30.5 (-1.5)

Progress Party 20.0 (+1.0)

Conservatives 19,0 (+1.0)

Socialist Left 14.5 (-1.0)Christian People 7.0 (+1.5)

Agrarians 5.0 ( -- )

Liberal Left 2.0 (-0.5) (NRK/VG)

Oh, Hades, I just noticed it is 3:00 a.m. in Norway, and so no Norwegian Free Republicans are at hand to enlighten us.

There is always a problem with trying to decipher the real ideology, or bent, of a foreign political party; the "Radical Party" in France, for example, is (or was) rather conservative, while the "Liberal Party" in Russia is known to be "far-right" (actually so far left it is rubbing shoulders with the DUmmies of the democraticunderground).

And here in Norway, we have "Labour" and "Conservative" in a governmental coalition?

Does anyone know how to "grade" the Norwegian political parties, from conservative to liberal, or right-wing to left-wing?

And is this poll good or bad for Norway remaining with us in fighting the War against Terror? When are the next elections, or does anyone know.

This is what I get for asking a question when it is 3:00 a.m. in Norway, and all the Norwegians are fast asleep.....

"Ping" for the "Norway ping list," although it is unreasonable to expect any credible answers from Norwegians until tomorrow (Saturday).

Looks like a slight shift to the Conservative Right. That's rather pleasing.

Yes, it is, sir, very encouraging.

I find it amusing that the "right of center" party is called "the Progress Party." Of course, conservatives are more progressive than regressive, anal-retentive liberals, but only we know that; they do not.

When you grade from left to Right:
Socialist left, Agrarian, Labour are Socialst parties
Center:
Liberal, Christian Democratic Party
Right wing:
Conservative and Progressive Party

Todays coalitian is formed by Christian Democratic Party, Liberals and Conservatives

I have voted Progressive Party every election.

Who and what are the Agrarian Party? Old Hippies that want everyone to live in a commune?

Agrarian party is the farmers party. Its the most hopeless party. It ties with the socialists. In the 80ties they were in coalition with the Conservatives, but they have become sosialists. Backwards thinking

Aha. This proves my point.

The "Agrarian Party" in Norway is leftist?--I had thought it was made up of grouchy old backward reactionary farmers.

And the "Progress Party" in Norway is conservative?--its name smacks of DUmmies and "progressism."

It is amusing, how political terms when translated from one language into another, get distorted, such as the "Radical Party" in France, which is (or was) conservative.

I used to have fun with well-educated liberal friends of mine, who toe the party line and accept things at their label, when discussing the "Liberal Democratic Party" of Russia. They were all for the Liberal Democratic Party there; I doubt if even today these liberal friends understand that party is the Ku Klux Klan of Russia.
