Tehran, Feb. 04 – A Tehran court has sentenced a couple to death by stoning and hanging, according to the state-run daily Etemad.
Iran's Supreme Court has reportedly upheld the verdicts and has confirmed that the woman only identified by her first name Massoumeh will be stoned to death and her husband identified by his first name Ismaeil will be hanged to death.
The couple were accused of murder. Another unnamed individual also charged with murder separately was handed down an execution sentence in Pakdasht (west of Tehran).
Stoning to death is a barbaric punishment used by the Iranian regime, where the victim is buried up to the waist in the ground (women are buried up to the shoulders) and stones are thrown to their heads, with the law stating that the stones must not be big enough to kill the person instantly and not be too small so that the victim feels the maximum amount of pain.
I can think of some murderers in the US I wouldn't mind seeing this punishment used on.

Some Freepers might be praising the Iranians for their "justice" system, but I think there should be a middle ground between the Iranian "torture 'em to death without evidence" and the Massachusetts "no death penalty and a technicality for every murderer."

This couple is accused of murder. The only problem with this though is how Iran defines murder. Did they actually kill someone or rip a page in the Quaran?

Before they ban this practice, please, please, let them apply it to Saddam. Why is this b*st*rd still consuming air anyway? It's not like he might be innocent ya' know.
I postulate that if they stoned Saddam today, terrorist attacks by his loyalists would decline tomorrow. Think, if Hitler was alive and in prison after the fall of Berlin, how would his loyalists have behaved?
There seems to be a lot of wisecracking going on here over an atrocity which has no place at all in a civilized world. I'll grant you Iran hardly qualifies as civilized but this sort of thing is beyond horrible. Picture someone you know being buried up to the neck and killed in such a manner. But we all know Islam is a religion of compassion, right?
